Downtown Toronto’s annual outdoor multi-day boutique summer roots music festival, TURF (Toronto Urban Roots Festival) has been nominated in the Festival Of The Year category at the upcoming 2015 Pollstar Concert Industry Awards. What do you think? Does it deserve to win in the category?

Other nominees include the Newport Folk Fest, Pitchfork, Treasure Island and past nominees have included prestigious North American boutique events like Colorado’s Telluride Bluegrass, Boston Calling, Austin’s Fun Fun Fun, and San Francisco’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass.

Canadian nominees in other categories include the Air Canada Centre for Arena of the Year, and Quebec City’s Centre Vidéotron for Best New Major Concert Venue. The nomination committee includes 163 agents, managers, promoters, and touring industry professionals. The winners will be announced at the 27th Annual Pollstar Awards on February 12th at the SF Masonic in San Francisco.

TURF is also excited to announce the next year’s festival will permanently stay in the fall and at Historic Fort York Common with the 2016 dates confirmed on September 14th-19th

“This year the festival boasted record attendance numbers,” says TURF Artistic Director and President Jeff Cohen. “We found there were more headliner availabilities in September than in July and as our event is very artist focused I think this will allow our programmers Ben Pearlman, Craig Laskey and Donny Kutzbach more space to curate.”

“We’ll be looking at potential programming changes for 2016,” adds Cohen. “We are flirting with ideas for a fourth stage, specifically to add both comedy, and Western style folk fest workshops, with perhaps the addition of a huge tented stage, plus we are going to revamp and increase the VIP viewing areas.”

“We also want to continue our environmental initiatives,” adds Tara King Cohen, TURF’s on-site Designer. “We saved thousands of bottles of water through with last years no bottled water policy thanks to Water-on-Wheels, but we hope to improve our on site recycling efforts moving forward.”

Tickets will go on sale for TURF in early 2016, which will take place on September 14-19, 2016.
