Earlier this summer, Black Asteroid aka Bryan Black released ‘Thrust’ via Last Gang Records. Now, he’s shared the video for album track Tangiers, a cut featuring fashion eccentric and Rick Owen’s wife and muse on vocals, Michele Lamy, who also stars in the Tim Saccenti & Alan Bibby directed video. Watch it via YouTube below.
Director Tim Saccenti (Run the Jewels, Depeche Mode) and Alan Bibby (Pharrell, Rihanna, Ariana Grande) teamed up with Andre Jurado witch at visual effects powerhouse MPC to create a sci-fi tinged occult ritual cum boxing match for the techno-sleaze anthem, capturing the raw, driving energy of the song in the sparse color palate and brutalist design a short circuit between the base and abstract, the beautiful and the profane.
Speaking on the video, the duo say it was “inspired by Lamy’s obsession with boxing and run through the futurist lens of Bryan Black’s sinister production, the chromed out visuals find her invocated into an in-between space a stark, electric and suggestively intellectual one – to do battle as robed figures nod their heads and clap to the minimal beat in a savage, thoughtless way, creating strange tensions. Continuing, they explain it features a rich graphic tapestry, a sly nod to acid house heroes and art pranksters the KLF, and a cabal of machine elves, the film itself involves Lamy’s real life sparring partner Katja Bankowsky in a visceral, brutal match to the finish. Replacing the ontology of our dusty world with a beautiful, unified, fractal one.”
‘Thrust,’ is the first full length album from Black Asteroid and features Zola Jesus, Cold Cave as well as fashion eccentric and muse to Rick Owen’s (with whom Black collaborated for the albums art), Michele Lamy. Go the Last Gang website or Black Asteroid website to purchase NOW.
