While recording her next record, Brooklyn based indie pop singer BETS will release her new full-album cover of the Violent Femmes’ 1983 self-titled debut breakout record, titled ‘project violent femmes,’ on January 27. Skillfully washing a lush wall of noise to the classic tracks, the result is a neo-psychedelia, shoegaze record with a pop twist. Evoking a vocal tone reminiscent of Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hanna, BETS reinvents Gone Daddy Gone/I Just Want To Make Love To You. Take a listen via Soundcloud below.
BETS’ dreamy voice is a sweet contrast to the content of the lyrics, elevating the the strong connection she feels to the words and feelings of that of the original. ‘project violent femmes’ is a bridge between her debut LP and her sophomore original work.
Since dropping her self-released debut and touring across the U.S., Canada and Europe, BETS has cultivated a steadily growing community, amassing nearly 10K fans on Facebook. Be sure to catch her live in NYC at Baby’s All Right on Valentine’s Day.
