Cold Gawd have announced their new EP, ‘Glory2’, out August 28 via Dais Records. Alongside the news, the band has shared the EP’s first single and video, Grease.

A New Chapter for California’s Shoegaze Road Dogs

‘Glory2’ pulls forward the muscular distortion of Cold Gawd’s ’God Get Me The Fuck Out of Here’ LP (2022) and the lush production of ‘I’ll Drown On This Earth’ (2024), adapting both eras into something new. For founder, frontman, and guitarist Matthew Wainwright, hitting the road has always been the dream: “I worked my whole life to get to the point where I could pack in the van with my friends and my songs and see the world,” he says.

After earning critical praise for their sophomore album, Cold Gawd took their show on the road, supporting bands like Spiritual Cramp, Soft Blue Shimmer, High Vis, and more. But upon returning home from their fall 2025 tour, the shine of that childhood dream started to fade, and exhaustion set in.

More than a record about touring, ‘Glory2’ is about the frustration and longing that comes with distance. Musically, it’s the band’s most realized and captivating work yet — Cold Gawd’s signature effervescent distortion and pummeling grooves are still there, but reflected in new ways across the tracklist. The EP pulls in-genre inspiration from shoegaze luminaries like Beach House and DIIV, while also branching out into hip-hop (BROCKHAMPTON) and emo (Tigers Jaw) influences.

First Single Grease Proves the Edge Is Still There

Any notion that Cold Gawd have softened gets dismissed immediately by Grease, the EP’s first single. The track grasps at stability amid the struggle to keep moving forward. Wainwright’s exhaustion is palpable: “Brief joy found in praise,” he sings. “It meant nothing.” Accolades and pats on the back don’t put gas in the tank — and Grease, unyielding in the verses and soaring in the choruses, proves that even running on empty, Cold Gawd is no less explosive. Wainwright’s familiar gauzy vocal is complemented by panoramic guitars throughout.
