Cor de Lux get weird and wonderful with stop-motion video for ‘The Deli’

Cor de Lux

Cor de Lux are cooking up something strange and satisfying with their new video for The Deli, a stop-motion trip directed and animated by Stephen Coad. It’s the second preview from ‘Year Of The Horse,’ the band’s Ipecac Recordings debut, out September 18.

Built on the tangled guitars and trade-off vocals of Dawn Moraga and Tim Lusk, The Deli is classic Cor de Lux — noisy indie rock with hooks sharp enough to hurt. The lyrics take aim at political burnout, with lines like “eat all the politicians like sandwiches no kind of sauce can make them taste good.”

Bassist John Bliven broke down the song’s message: “To fall in mud doesn’t mean you’re stuck, safe on the line, you’ll never grow taller’ is an encouragement to think for yourself and not download what other people tell you to say and believe.”

Moraga added her own take on the state of things, comparing the political system to “a modern day WWF televised event on ‘The Jerry Springer Show.'”

The video follows last month’s clip for The Cringe, a cooking-show-gone-wrong that set the tone for the album’s satirical streak.

About the Album

Produced by J. Robbins (War on Women, Mary Timony), ‘Year Of The Horse’ captures the push-pull that makes Cor de Lux tick: abrasion and melody, chaos and control. Across nine tracks, the Kill Devil Hills quartet threads post-hardcore urgency through shoegaze haze and guitar-driven catharsis.

Critical Praise

The Chicago Reader praised the band’s “propulsive energy,” while Post-Trash highlighted their knack for weaving “meditative ambience and rushing percussion” into something singular.
