Ash blast off again with live ‘Girl From Mars’ ahead of 1977’s 30th anniversary

Ash are marking thirty years of pure power-pop by sending ‘Girl From Mars’ back into orbit. The band have shared a live session recording of the track, taken from earlier STABAL Studios sessions, as part of a wider celebration of their No. 1 debut album ‘Girl From Mars’ launched from — ‘Girl From Mars’, ‘Goldfinger’, ‘Kung Fu’ and ‘Oh Yeah’ still hitting just as hard three decades on.

The Reissue

Originally released in 1996, ‘1977’ launched Ash from teenage upstarts into full-blown Britpop icons. This 30th Anniversary Edition arrives 16th October via BMG, and it’s a proper deep dive: the original album, plus rarities, remixes and a full live set from STABAL Studios.

The digital and 2CD editions pair the remastered original with four extras — the long-lost Bittersweet Blue, a 2026 mix of Oh Yeah, a 2026 demo mix of Girl From Mars, and an acoustic 2026 mix of Gone The Dream — followed by the full STABAL live disc, including fan favourites Coasting, Sneaker, American Devil and Silver Surfer.

The 2LP ‘InkPlosion’ Green & Black vinyl keeps the original album on LP1 and stacks a curated B-sides collection on LP2 — Day Of The Triffids, Luther Ingo’s Star Cruiser, Cantina Band and T Rex among the highlights, with two tracks making their vinyl debut.
