Spike F*ck returns from the shadows with Sacred Bones debut ‘evidence’

For a decade, Spike F*ck has been less an artist and more a rumour that refuses to die — sporadic bursts of brilliance, whispers of collapse, and a cult EP (Smackwave, out on Partisan) that outlets couldn’t even print the title of. Then, right as the industry started circling, he vanished. No explanation. Just gone, leaving behind bootleg uploads, YouTube comment-section mythology, and a fandom that only grew more devoted the less it had to hold onto.

He’s back now. And he’s not interested in explaining where he went.

Enter ‘evidence’

Spike F*ck has signed to Sacred Bones Records and announced his long-gestating debut album, ‘evidence’, arriving October 2. This isn’t a tell-all. It’s not a redemption arc, a relapse narrative, or a tidy resolution to years of “is he dead, alive, or just done.” It’s proof of presence — a record built to be felt in the body, not decoded.

Written and tracked in just three months with producer Adam Hyde (Keli Holiday), ‘evidence’ trades the old obsession with identity — man or woman, addict or ascetic, trickster or rockstar — for something blunter: existing, in real time, without the commentary track.

“I wanted to approach songwriting in the same way a director shooting a slasher film does. Get to the point and make people feel it all. I want this record to cut like a sharp knife.”

Reference points include Pere Ubu, New York Dolls, The Temptations, and Bettye Swan — filtered through the unsettling energy of a certain banned 1970s manual. Make of that what you will.

The First Cut: ALL BY MYSELF

Lead single ALL BY MYSELF fuses new wave, glam, and soul into something that sounds like joy until you look closer — a vocal performance sliding between blasé, vulnerable, and manic, wrapped in production that’s almost doo-wop sweet.

“As society has abandoned mythologies, we must create our own… the idea to create a story of a war hero/criminal undergoing an absurdist spiritual transformation seemed almost obligatory. Purgatorial musings, heaven and hell, redemption, fantasy, a mushroom that talks — so on and so forth.”

Watch ALL BY MYSELF below.

“This video, along with the entire record, is a series of clues, a collection of pieces of evidence… Hopefully this video raises more questions than it answers.”
