Fresh off shows alongside Boeckner (Wolf Parade) and A Place To Bury Strangers, Cleveland’s own Arms & Armour are back with a brand new video for Terror By Night, the latest cut from their forthcoming album ‘The Hunted’, out via Sweet Cheetah Records.
The Sound
Recorded in a 140-year-old drill bit factory in the industrial heart of Cleveland (yes, really), Arms & Armour cook up a doom wash of guttural noise, groaning guitars, synth colorations, drone measures, and relentless repetitive drum work. Think Ulver meets Swans meets Portishead, with a little Depeche Mode moodiness and Darkthrone grit thrown in for good measure.
Gothic sensibilities filtered through doom with elements of EDM and post-punk — Arms & Armour treat genre like a game of literary whack-a-mole, but the whacker is a cudgel covered in drill bits.
Who They Are
The duo — Lauren Voss (vocals, guitar, synths) and John Panza (drum machines, acoustic drums, guitar, synths) — have been building this world together for 15 years. Self-produced and entirely self-motivated, they’ve toured everywhere from acoustic bills to death metal shows, quiet rooms to loud ones, and somehow always fit right in.
‘The Hunted’ plays like a soundtrack to recovery — from illness, from tragedy, from the chaos of contemporary politics, from parenthood, from just plain getting older. The takeaway: aging happens, but art is forever.
