A Shoreline Dream share new video for ‘Waitout’ single

A Shoreline Dream

Colorado-based progressive shoegaze post-punk outfit A Shoreline Dream has shared their new Waitout video from the EP by the same name, released via Latenight Weeknight Records. Check it out via YouTube below.

For this release, frontman Ryan Policky (vocals, guitar, keys, bass) and Erik Jeffries (guitar) have reunited with the band’s original drummer Gabriel Ratliff.

Directed and filmed by A Shoreline Dream frontman Ryan Policky and Latenight Weeknight, this intrigue-filled sci-fi clip features actors Justin Gitlin and Dawn Yukus, who are collaborators in Policky’s horror film company Bloodshed Deathbath, as well as Gitlin being his bandmate in Brim Liski.

“I have been developing this story for 3 years now. A science fiction romance gone wrong, where two astronauts finding a spark for each other get thrown into an unexpected event that puts the two into a fight for survival. With a hallucinatory and confusing vibe, the visuals follow along with the theme of the lyrics, where when you wait for something to happen, that time sometimes backfires and creates a situation that is far from ideal,” says Ryan Policky.

“The video came about quickly and the vision of what I initially conceived hit my personal mark. I’m a huge fan of what we came up with audibly for the song and visually I knew we had a challenge. How does one with little to no budget create something that looks like it’s from a space station? Well, I turned to classics such as “Pi” for inspiration. Find unique spaces. Use lights and CO2 effects to establish a vibe. Create an uneasy feeling with camera moves and frame each shot with any elements of normalcy thrown out the window… It’s amazing to know sci-fi doesn’t need a budget of 10 million dollars to make it all work.”

While they had been releasing one single at a time over the past three years (with a vinyl-only album being the end goal), the duo found themselves breaking out of this mold in early 2018 upon reconnecting with Gabe and discovering a sonic continuation of their original vibe together in a brand new studio environment.

The new EP also features re-masters of some of the band’s most treasured tracks, including New York, Barnum and Projections, which is one of the first tracks they wrote together back in 2005.

“The lead single ‘Waitout’ is a reflection of the current state of world affairs, focusing on the need to break away from the stagnation and creating change in our lives,” explains Ryan Policky. “It may be one of the biggest fears of those living in the world today but we do in fact need change, and the song is a rallying cry to remind us all to make it happen”.

With only a few more songs to go to complete their debut vinyl release, this new EP from A Shoreline Dream not only celebrates the sound that started their “sound at the bottom of a well” music journey, but it also gives fans a taste of the newly re-formed and epic sound swirling through the cosmos.

The ‘Waitout’ EP is available now through the regular online stores and streaming platforms, as wel as the band’s Bandcamp.
