Toronto’s shoegaze wizard Michelle K channels heartbreak into pure sonic bliss

Toronto’s own shoegaze sorceress, AloneKitty, returns with Gotta Let It Go, a cathartic blast of fuzz, feedback, and unfiltered emotion. Picture swirling guitar textures, off‑kilter tunings borrowed from Thurston Moore’s playbook, and thunderous rhythms that crash into a towering wall of noise—this is the soundtrack for anyone who’s ever had to scream into the void and choose peace over pain.

From its opening swirl to the climactic feedback storm, Gotta Let It Go is a raw confession set to sound: anger distilled into waves of distortion, frustration melting into a cathartic release. It’s shoegaze as therapy—an immersive experience where the only way out is through a haze of reverb and relentless drive.

Following the acclaim of her debut album—hailed by Rebel Noise as “powerful, distortion‑heavy”—Michelle K teams up with bassist Jonathan Knowles and drummer Stefan Loebus to bring that studio intensity to life on stage. Now signed to Mint 400 Records, AloneKitty is already sketching the next chapter, and if this single is any indication, we’re in for more emotionally charged, unfiltered noise that feels like a hug and a head‑rush all at once.

About AloneKitty

AloneKitty is the solo project of Toronto‑based artist Michelle K, whose sonic palette draws from legends like Sonic Youth, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, HUM, Mogwai, Ivy, and the heyday of Creation Records. After a tech‑industry layoff, Michelle spent a year pouring her personal ups and downs into her self‑titled debut—a lush, noise‑soaked world built to blast away your thoughts and leave you suspended in bliss.

I’m all about building a wall of sound that sandblasts your mind and plants you in a unique state of bliss,” Michelle says. “These songs reflect my struggles with relationships, work, and transition. Someone once called us ‘Swans with hooks’—I loved that!”

With Gotta Let It Go, AloneKitty proves that sometimes the most beautiful moments come wrapped in distortion.
