Ambassadeurs returns with their new single, Higher, which is released on his own Lost Tribe Records imprint. Unafraid to explore new musical or geographical territories, his latest record is stylistically removed from the stripped back approach presented on his recent ‘Halos EP’ while still retaining the signature aesthetic of Ambassadeurs productions. Now residing in Berlin, his new surroundings have made their mark on his sound but his UK influences are still clear with Higher channelling early rave aesthetics while B side Rapture is off kilter melodic techno. Incorporating broken beat 808 kicks and deep brooding basslines – Higher builds on an eerily warped vocal sample before taking listeners on a journey culminating in a full on synth drop. Rhythmically evolving throughout, the track is ethereal and dynamic with the synth layers and bass interplaying and dropping back throughout the peaks and troughs.
Rapture continues the nightclub vibe with a driving emotive minor chord sequence carrying the track. The breakdown sees it drop out to momentarily turn mellower with pitched up vocal snaps coming in before arpeggiated synths build back up into the beat with wonderful flourishes from 8 bit synths.
Ambassadeurs widespan electronica sound draws from many genres and styles all moulded together with his slick signature production. His output has won him strong support in particular on BBC Radio 1 from Monki, Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart as well as online press including The Fader, Mixmag, Vice, iD, Clash, XLR8R and Earmilk. Though he releases through his own Lost Tribe Records imprint, many other labels have also picked up on his talents with his remixing services utilised by the likes of Tru Thoughts, Ninja Tune, Moshi Moshi, Fat Cat, Wah Wah 45s, Universal and Rough Trade.
