Beloved London art-punk legends Art Brut are back with a wild, career-spanning box set that pulls together a decade of their most eccentric, electric, and unapologetically raw material. Titled ‘Sorry, That It Doesn’t Sound Like It’s Planned! Battling Satan, 2009–2020,’ is out now via Edsel Records.
Eddie Argos says it like only Eddie can: “I can’t wait for you all to hear these songs. Some of my absolute favourite Art Brut moments are in here—home demos, unreleased tracks, alternate versions, B-sides. Stuff we’ve been keeping secret for years. Plus, I’m thrilled that Richard Where is My Record Deal finally gets its time to shine. This is a box of fantastic music. There’s even a long essay by me about how fantastic it is. You’d be a fool not to grab a copy.”
This is the second and final part of Edsel’s Art Brut compilation series—a deep dive into the band’s output from 2009 through 2020. This isn’t just a best-of. It’s a beautifully curated time capsule. Five discs. Dozens of tracks. Rarities, demos, unreleased gold, and deep cuts, all handpicked with love and chaos by the band.
Whether you’ve followed them since Bang Bang Rock & Roll or you’re just now discovering their world of guitars, spoken-word rants, and accidental genius, this set is for you.
What’s in the box:
- Five CDs spanning three studio albums and two discs packed with demos, B-sides, and live rarities
- A 24-page zine featuring liner notes from Eddie Argos and loads of archival photography
- A limited edition Art Brut print, signed by Eddie himself

More info
After their triumphant 2018 comeback with ‘Wham! Bang! Pow! Let’s Rock Out!,’ Art Brut reissued their debut ‘Bang Bang Rock & Roll’ for its 15th anniversary in 2020. A few German dates followed, but their UK party plans got derailed by the pandemic. Still, they returned in style—remastered classics, a full-album gig at Heaven in London, and a B-side from 2005 released as a digital single for the first time.
They also gave fans a real treat for Record Store Day 2020, reissuing ‘Modern Art’ with a 16-minute Berlin-style version and 300 unique sleeves decorated by friends, artists, and famous fans. Contributions rolled in from Black Francis, John Cooper Clarke, Dev from IDLES, The Human League, Game of Thrones’ Ben Crompton, The Manic Street Preachers, The Lovely Eggs, and more.
Bottom line:
If you love Art Brut, this is the definitive collection. If you’ve never heard them before—welcome to the beautiful mess.
