Arts & Crafts today announced a new photography exhibit in collaboration with Toronto-based celebrity and fashion photographer Norman Wong, chronicling Arts & Crafts label artists over the past 10 years. The original black-and-white portrait series features iconic favourite and never-before-seen shots of artists such as Kevin Drew, Leslie Feist, Dan Mangan and numerous other Arts & Crafts artists, as well as a special archival collection of personal, candid shots taken by Wong during Arts & Crafts tours, concerts and photography sessions.
The exhibit will be located at 1093 Queen St. W. (Unit 2) from Thursday, May 23 and run until Saturday, June 15. It will also show at Field Trip Music & Arts Festival and the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival.
“Norm really is the best. He’s so giving with his talent. It’s an honour to be showcasing our artists through his lens,” said Jeffrey Remedios, co-founder and president of Arts & Crafts. “We’re excited to share some of the intimate, candid moments that he’s captured over the past decade.”
The Queen Street staple, Analogue Gallery, will be producing and managing the exhibit. A limited number of prints will be available for purchase both at the show and online with a portion of the proceeds being donated to Testicular Cancer Canada and MusiCounts.
The exhibit venue will simultaneously serve as a pop-up headquarters for everything #AC10 related, including Field Trip festival tickets, special festival and Arts & Crafts merchandise, the complete Arts & Crafts catalogue, and will serve as host to special events during the NXNE Festival (Monday, June 10 through June 16).
“I’m looking forward to presenting my body of work with a group of people that helped me find my passion for photography. Broken Social Scene and Arts & Crafts are very dear to me; they are family. They gave me a reason to begin and to keep going,” said Wong. “This collection of photographs is a celebration of a group of people I truly love and admire. No one outside my circle of friends has seen these photographs, and it gives me great excitement to share it with the city I love, to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Arts & Crafts.”
More about Norman Wong? Canadian-based Norman Wong is an emerging photographer recognized for his work in the fashion and editorial worlds. He is a regular contributor to many international cult magazines like Bad Day and ‘Sup. In Canada, Wong shoots for Flare and Toronto Life magazines. Wong discovered his love for photography while working in sales at a commercial film production company. What began as a personal hobby photographing on set developed into a photography career working with Broken Social Scene through Arts & Crafts, and breakout models with Canadian model agent Elmer Olsen.
