Visionary electronic producer Mark Pritchard teams up with the enigmatic Thom Yorke, frontman of The Smile and Radiohead, to unleash their latest collaborative single, Back In The Game, via Warp Records. Debuted on the opening night of Yorke’s “Everything” solo tour in Christchurch, New Zealand, this track has already become a setlist staple across Australia, Japan, and Singapore. It’s the second time these two innovators have joined forces, following their acclaimed 2016 collaboration Beautiful People from Pritchard’s solo album ‘Under The Sun’.
A true luminary of ’90s UK electronic music—with seminal projects like Reload, Link, and Global Communication under his belt, as well as transformative remixes for Radiohead, Aphex Twin, Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey, and Slowdive—Pritchard continues to redefine sonic landscapes. In Back In The Game, he again bends the rules by digitally distorting Yorke’s vocals using the vintage H910 Harmonizer, transforming the voice into a fluid, dynamic instrument within an expansive, futuristic soundscape.
Enhancing the auditory experience is a visually arresting video directed by Jonathan Zawada, a master of blending analogue and digital techniques. With over a decade of collaboration with Pritchard, Zawada brings a unique visual narrative to the track. Reflecting on his creative process, he explains:
“When I first heard the original demo of Back In The Game, the deranged bassline immediately conjured the final scene of Staying Alive, with John Travolta strutting through New York—but with a sinister twist. I envisioned a character in an oversized parade head, their expression fixed in manic intensity, marching in a way that blurred the line between aggression and celebration. As the lyrics unfolded, the image grew into a parade of figures passing a building from which everything was hurled out the window into a giant bonfire. The video ultimately portrays a blind celebration amid a crumbling civilization—a progression through regression—and examines how we assign value to our collective cultural expression in the face of monumental change.“
