London-based duo beachtown have announced their upcoming new EP ‘UNSAYABLE’, out May 12th via Young Poet. They also shared its latest single Unsure. Watch the visualizer via YouTube below.

Consisting of Menorca born Zaine Masoliver and British/Danish Fred Cowan, together the pair blend oddball pop sensibilities with elements of shoegaze, indie and dream pop whilst intermittently paying tribute to Zaine’s Hispanic upbringing with bossa nova influenced breaks alongside vocal textures which wouldn’t be out of place on ‘Pet Sounds’.

Taking cues from experimental innovators like Dijon, Mura Masa and Eyedress, new single Unsure stands as the duo’s most direct and accomplished release to date. Written as a gateway to “a break from the dullness” the song was co-produced alongside Rupert Lyddon (Wolf Alice, King Nun).

Swooping in on the back of a lively guitar-driven intro, the song moves through the gears at lightning pace. Lyrically alluding to social insecurities and feelings of misplacement which are summed up by lyrics like: “In the wrong place, there’s no tracks, but the train is leaving…”

Speaking more on the inspiration and lyrical meaning behind the new single, the band’s vocalist Zaine Masoliver said: “Unsure to me is about the feeling of mentally not being on top of things; thinking and daydreaming – which I feel I might do a bit too much (unconsciously of course). It’s the realisation that the people you’re with or the situation you’re in isn’t right for you and looking for that opening… being in the moment and rejecting mundanity.”

beachtown was formed in 2019, during a chance meeting in the queue for a gig in Kingston, South London when the search for a lost ticket turned into a conversation. Building a world together in their bedroom studios, their DIY ambition is catapulting the pair into exciting new spaces.

Unsure follows recent single Toybox; two bold, eccentric cuts in their own right and next on the duo’s agenda is the release of their second EP ‘UNSAYABLE’ out 12 May, continuing to build on their library of found sounds, which is sure to further cement beachtown as ones to watch.

Since signing to Young Poet, beachtown have received key press support from The Line Of Best Fit, The Independent, Dummy Mag, La Blogotheque and more. They’ve won admiration from tastemakers at BBC Introducing London and Kent (Jess Iszatt, Abbie McCarthy), featured on Tom Robinson’s “Introducing Mixtape” on BBC6 Music and they earned a place on Amazing Radio’s C-List. The duo have already featured on the cover of Spotify’s Fresh Finds UK & IE playlist and have received further support across New Music Friday UK, anti pop, The Other list, Hot New Bands, lo-fi indie and Today’s Indie Rock.
