Get ready to dive into a fresh sonic adventure as Dew Claw gears up to release their much-anticipated album, ‘E.L.F.,’ on May 9 through Dromedary Records. The band debuted the album’s lead single, Wall, along with an evocative music video directed by Danny Plotnick.
Wall tells a story of lingering heartache and the quiet strength of patient love. As Stephen Hunking puts it, the song is a tribute to the resilient spirit of partners who stick by each other, even when past wounds cast long shadows. Born from an initial collaboration with Frode Strømstad for the Grand Union project, the track transformed under Chris Xefos’s direction into a rollicking, Buzzcocks-inspired rocker. The recording brings together a stellar lineup, including Arne Kjelsrud Mathisen on drums, and guitar legends Dave Rick and Kurt Bloch, engaging in an unprecedented musical duel. Adding a final layer of magic, Alison Faith Levy’s soulful vocals join forces with the creative energies of Frode, Chris, and Stephen.
Chris Xefos also shares his excitement about the visual journey of Wall: “For the video, we teamed up with my old friend, the Super-8 filmmaking legend Danny Plotnick, to capture the essence of being an aging indie rocker in today’s ever-changing scene. His fresh perspective and unique style truly brought our vision to life.”
Since its inception in 2004, Dew Claw has served as Stephen Hunking’s creative outlet—a space to explore life, love, and the quirky moments in between. With a rich history that spans four full-length albums, a handful of singles, and memorable projects like XL Kings and Grand Union, Dew Claw continues to evolve. Chris Xefos, known for his influential work with King Missile during the golden era of college rock, adds his own flair as a producer and musician, contributing to an illustrious career alongside bands like Flotation Device and Rattletrap.
For ‘E.L.F.,’ Dew Claw draws inspiration from the transformative journey of English rockers The Move into the electric realm of the Electric Light Orchestra. The album is a vibrant fusion of intimate recordings and full-band dynamics, featuring contributions from a lineup of accomplished artists such as Arne Kjelsrud Mathisen, Frode Strømstad, Dave Rick, Kurt Bloch, Gary Olson, and Alison Faith Levy. Across 10 tracks, the album invites listeners to savor a blend of orchestral nuances and raw alt-rock energy, each song given space to breathe and evolve through rich collaboration.
