Canadian Music Week’s (CMW) 3-day Music Summit will end with a bang with the Music Cities Summit “The Mastering Of A Music City” on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel.
The Music Cities Summit will focus on seven key strategies that cities both large and small can use to grow and strengthen their music economy. Panels and presentations throughout the day-long summit include: The Role of Advocates: A Story of Successfully Fighting For Your Music City with Helen Marcou of Australia’s Bakehouse Studios; Music Tourism Panel with representatives from Music Canada Live, Sziget Festival and Constellation Brands Canada; and How To Prevent Monoculture from Killing Our Music Cities with Molly Neuman, the Head of Music at Kickstarter.
The Music Cities Summit explores the relationship between creative city planning, and the role music plays in quality-of-life for city residents with speakers from municipal governments and music industries from around the world including Toronto, Nashville, Milan, Bogota, Detroit, Brooklyn and beyond.
The Music City Leader’s Panel will feature senior elected officials, including Toronto Mayor John Tory, Maria Claudia Lopez Sorzano from the City of Bogota, and Mayor Richard Berry from the City of Albuquerque, who have identified music as a key strategy or economic sector. They will discuss the associated opportunities and challenges, and the role the music community has played in strategy development and implementation.
In addition, Toronto City Councillor Josh Colle, co-chair of the Toronto Music Industry Advisory Council, will lead a discussion called How To Work With The Development Community that focuses on the challenges facing small music venues in growing cities.
Canadian Music Week is Canada’s leading annual entertainment event dedicated to the expression and growth of the country’s music, media and entertainment industries. Combining four information-intensive conferences; a trade exposition; a film festival; a comedy festival; four awards shows and the nation’s largest new music festival, CMW spans a six-day period from April 18 to 23, 2017 at the Sheraton Centre Hotel, and in more than 50 downtown Toronto venues, attracting participants from across the globe.
