Yesterday was Record Store Day 2013 which brings out all the vinyl lovers for this one day event. It’s like Christmas for the record collector types. There are special limited edition releases, band performances, and overall love for independent record shops. Jack White was the “ambassador” for this year’s RSD since he is a big supporter of the vinyl format. At his record store in Nashville, he had a press set up that could record customers singing and press it straight to vinyl – read more about it here via the Toronto Sun. You can also watch this promo for Record Store Day featuring Jack White via Vimeo below (hit refresh if you don’t see the video – it is a bit finicky sometimes).

Domestic Culture: Moving Your Vinyl Collection

I must admit I’m a major vinyl addict with a large record collection. Records are my favourite format to listen to music until I have to move my collection which brings out the vinyl hate. I store my records in an enclosed cabinet so I didn’t have them in old school crates so packing up my collection has been problematic.
Here are a few of my concerns about moving my vinyl “babies”:
- Large number of records
- Crates are open on top so rain / snow can get on your precious vinyl
- The exposed top in a crate can lead to damage during the move
- I always like to keep my vinyl vertical and never stack them so I need a way to do this
I luckily found a few solutions that I wanted to pass along to you. There are a few options for vinyl friendly shipping boxes.

- The Box Spot - they have record album cartons as well as video and CD boxes.
- U-Haul
- U-Line
- Vinyl Revival - check out their LP Moving Boxes
- Bags Unlimited – If you budget is also unlimited, you can get these more durable yet pricier boxes.
Here are some articles with tips and articles about moving your collection:

Album Review: Trust – TRST
Formed in 2009, the Toronto-based duo Trust are Robert Alfons and Maya Postepski (also a member in Austra). They release their forthcoming debut full length, ‘TRST’ via Arts & Crafts on February 28, 2012 on vinyl / CD and by digital download. To provide some reference to explain the sound on this album – it is like a fusion of The Knife, Austra and Salem. It is dark, left of centre dance music with a hint of gothic swagger. ‘TRST’ is a very solid debut across all 11 tracks and definitely worth picking up as the soundtrack to kick off or as the come down for any party.

“Tales of lust, wax, and erotomania carry along on a dense black vapor of speed, space and tears.”
Standout tracks: The slow, brooding and beautiful ‘Shoom’ and the synth-heavy, electro drum beat laden ‘This Ready Flesh’.
