Cloakroom is back with a fresh burst of creative energy from their forthcoming album ‘Last Leg of the Human Table,’ set to drop on February 28 via Closed Casket Activities. Alongside the new single, the band is gearing up for a North American spring tour that promises to shake up the live scene.

A Sonic Journey in The Story of the Egg

Cloakroom’s latest single, The Story of the Egg, is as concise as it is expansive—melding punchy, downpicked punk reminiscent of the late ’70s and early ’80s with lush, amorphous soundscapes. According to drummer Tim Remis, the track captures the bizarre anxiety of rediscovering one’s senses after a long period of sleep deprivation. “After working with a sleep doctor and finally getting a full night’s rest, I was hit with this overwhelming rush of new sensations—and that led to a unique kind of anxiety,” he explains.

A Bold New Chapter

Hailing from Indiana, Cloakroom returns with ‘Last Leg of the Human Table,’ their follow-up to 2022’s post-apocalyptic space western ‘Dissolution Wave’ and their label debut on Closed Casket Activities. Recorded in December 2023 at Electrical Audio in Chicago and Rec Room Recording in Des Plaines, Illinois—with the expert touch of engineer Zac Montez (Whirr, Turnover)—the album is a genre-bending exploration. From samples of post-disco Detroit group Was (Not Was) to ethereal NASA recordings capturing Saturn’s rings, every track reflects the band’s diverse influences and fearless sonic experimentation.

In a world caught in the grip of constant crisis, Cloakroom’s music probes deep questions about what it means to be human in an era where America’s soul seems lost. The band’s eclectic blend of pop, shoegaze, doom, post-punk, and folk barely scratches the surface of their inventive sound. With a title as sardonic as ‘Last Leg of the Human Table,’ the album challenges listeners to hold it all together—reminding us that if one leg falters, the whole table might just collapse.
