Brooklyn dream-psych duo Corbu have teamed up with one of their heroes, legendary Doves frontman Jimi Goodwin, to create Lost & Found, which they have shared alongside an accompanying video. The track is an upbeat, danceable slice of electronic indie pop, produced by Goodwin as a dubbed-out, reggae-tinged trip to the sun. It serves as the lead for Corbu’s upcoming ‘Lost & Found’ EP, out June 4th via Trash Casual and 3 Beat, which features the song reimagined in four different ways. The track also follows Doves’ latest album, ‘The Universal Want,’ which topped the UK album charts in September 2020. Lyrically, Lost & Found was inspired by Jonathan Graves of Corbu’s experience of the time before he was adopted.

Graves states: “I wrote the chorus to myself, based on my experience of being adopted at 4 months old. I was kind of messed up and couldn’t calm myself down, and I realized a lot of it had to do with the first four months of my life. Your brain is still forming, and it’s an eternity for a baby when you don’t have anyone to connect with. Amanda and I think the song applies to everyone, to some extent – you have to learn to be your own parent and be your own friend.”

Speaking on self-creating the video for the song, he adds: “The video is a Grimm’s fairy tale/mushroom trip in the woods. Jimi’s production on the track is a frenzied collage of samples, so we wanted to capture that same energy visually. We filmed ourselves singing and dancing along to the song at half-speed, all low and evil-sounding, and then sped up the footage to give it the same jittery feel as the vocals. We hope we did it justice.”

You can also stream the song here. To celebrate the release, the band will be hosting a free, ticketed livestream with a performance by Corbu and a conversation about the making of the track with Jimi Goodwin. Tickets are available now at https://smarturl.it/corbuandjimilive.

More about Corbu

Corbu is the music and visual art made by a grown-up choirboy-turned-psychonaut, and a hairstylist/lyricist who had never touched an instrument until she was playing on a Jumbotron at Austin City Limits. Jonathan Graves and Amanda create dirty, electronic dream-pop as a kind of medicine, trying to lure their audience deeper into their own subconscious while giving them something to sing along to. Jonathan has written a number of Corbu songs in his dreams, and Amanda contributes real-world, “non-musical” samples and textures that push and pull against the pop song format, as they occasionally dive off a cliff together into a pool of abstraction and ambient noise. Corbu has toured with Bloc Party, performed with Goldfrapp, played at Austin City Limits and Electric Forest festivals. After releasing a pair of singles in 2020, Lost & Found marks Corbu’s proper comeback following their debut album Crayon Soul, mixed by Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, Neon Indian).
