Guess who’s back? After five long years, Cut Copy is making a glorious return with their brand new single Solid—out now! It’s their first original release since 2020, and it’s already got that spark that made us fall for them in the first place.

Released via Cutters Records / The Orchard, Solid picks up right where Cut Copy left off—but with a fresh emotional current. It’s a shimmering, slow-build track that starts mellow and blooms into a warm, synth-filled anthem. It’s got that classic Cut Copy feeling: nostalgic, uplifting, danceable, and just a little bit existential.

Originally sketched out as an instrumental, Solid took on a whole new life during a moment of creative breakthrough. With soft pulses, delicate layers, and a mantra-like chorus—”We’ll be solid”—the song feels like a hug for the soul, a quiet anthem of resilience made to move to.

Frontman Dan Whitford puts it beautifully:

“I wrote the song as a reminder to myself that things will be okay, even when life feels upside down. Hopefully, it gives someone else a little push toward their own dreams. Hang in there… we’ll be solid.”

It’s the kind of track that works just as well alone at midnight with headphones on as it does echoing across a festival crowd. Classic Cut Copy duality.

Also worth geeking out about: there’s a limited-edition 12″ vinyl up for pre-order on their website, featuring a special B-side titled A Decade Long Sunset. If you’re a fan or a collector, that’s one for the shelf.

Cut Copy has been bending the boundaries of dance and indie for over two decades now—ever since Dan Whitford started the project solo in Melbourne. Alongside Tim Hoey, Mitchell Scott, and Ben Browning, they’ve become Aussie icons and global tastemakers. From the neon-drenched highs of In Ghost Colours to the atmospheric depths of Freeze, Melt, they’ve done it all—and they’ve racked up GRAMMY noms, ARIA wins, and a spot in the hearts of music lovers around the world.

You’ve heard them on festival stages (Coachella, Primavera, Lollapalooza), in video games (FIFA 18), and on major ad campaigns—but Solid signals the start of something new. It’s not just a comeback; it’s a continuation of the journey with fresh eyes and a full heart. And word is, more new music is coming in 2025.

Cut Copy is back. And they’ve still got that groove.
