Hull’s rising goth-rock force DEADSET return with a haunting new single, Party Line. The track blends shimmering post-punk textures with urgent, raw emotion—this is gothic storytelling at its sharpest.
Written in response to the disturbing surge of misogyny and violence against women, Party Line is both a lyrical gut-punch and a sonic standout. Vocalist Sam Mellors explains, “I was seeing so many stories about girls going out and not making it home—it just hit me. This song is my way of asking, ‘How is this still happening?’”

The single was produced by Lee Drinkall (FEVER, LIFE), mixed by Pat Pretorius (Vulgarians, The Talks), and mastered by Pete Maher (U2, Jack White), bringing DEADSET’s brooding energy into razor-focused clarity.
New EP ‘A Place Called Home’ Lands May 16, 2025
Mark your calendars: DEADSET’s debut EP, ‘A Place Called Home,’ is out May 16 via Man Demolish Records (also home to HOLY POPES and ROTHCO). Expect emotionally charged post-punk that grapples with isolation, inner turmoil, and stark reality checks.
Lead single Sister Codeine already set the tone earlier this year, diving deep into the dark corners of the mind—think obsession, spiraling thoughts, and the false narratives we tell ourselves when left alone too long.
Musically, this new material sees DEADSET stretching their sound. Guitarist James Massey’s influences—particularly Billy Duffy from The Cult—shine through, giving the tracks a more vibrant, goth-infused rock edge, even when the subject matter stays dark.
Live in Hull – Free BBC Introducing Show
To celebrate the EP launch, DEADSET are playing a very special free-entry show at the Wrecking Ball Arts Centre in Hull on May 16, 2025. Curated by BBC Introducing, this is the band’s chance to bring their new material to life on stage—expect a charged, genre-blurring set.
Tickets available now. Free entry, but space is limited.
More about DEADSET
Formed in 2022 by guitarist James Massey and vocalist Sam Mellors, DEADSET’s sound grew darker and more aggressive when bassist Adam Arnold and drummer Rio Campbell joined. Together, they’ve forged a gritty, genre-splicing blend of post-punk and goth rock with nods to New Order, Fontaines D.C., Interpol, and The Cult.
Their live shows are already turning heads locally—no two sets sound quite the same, and their raw, chorus-heavy tracks hit hard in a live setting.
Songwriting for Mellors is more than music—it’s therapy. That vulnerability and intensity bleeds through in every track.
More music and tour dates will be announced soon.
