Dye share new psychedelic slow burn single ‘Tilt’

California band Dye have shared their debut single Tilt, a caustic slow burn that confronts the fallout of grief. It’s a brooding and layered track with angular guitars and whispered vocals. As the opening track on the 7-song ‘Psychic Data’ EP, it establishes a wide sonic palette that is both ugly and beautiful.

The song was produced by Oh Sees member Tomas Dolas (who recorded and produced Sasami’s eponymous LP), the drums are front and center, overdriven with tape saturation. Before they were Dye, Christopher Adams (guitar, vocals), Nikolas Soelter (guitar), and Jeff Day (bass) created dissonant noise rock as Never Young. The Bay Area band were signed to Father/Daughter Records. Joined by Greta Soos (drums), Dye’s sound builds on their previous work, but pursues something darker and more dynamic.

Songs like title track Psychic Data showcase the band’s range, starting stripped down before blossoming with orchestral flourishes. Hostage pairs stark, off-kilter verses with an anthemic chorus a la Royal Headache, while Pain Expo is all angles, it’s scraping guitars building to an almost shoegaze take on Interpol’s post-punk.
