Asheville’s dark post-punk/deathrock band Secret Shame will release their acclaimed debut album ‘Dark Synthetics’ on Friday September 6 via Portrayal of Guilt’s imprint (Bandcamp pre-order). Ahead of its release, the band have shared one final single this week. The track is an enthralling, ethereal track called Gift that harkens back to the golden age of 4AD and dark 80’s post-punk that’s reminiscent of Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure, while simultaneously honing in on a sound all their own. Take a listen via YouTube below.

On their new album, the band never holds back, unleashing both chaotic and calm moments that are equally destructive in message. The band create a safe space for you to get lost in – the kind where you’re free to contemplate and relate, taking each song’s essence and shaping it to fit your own life and experience. Secret Shame’s sound resurrects the moody deathrock style that swept through the 80s, as their frontwoman Lena’s (she/her) harrowing vocals cut through dark atmospheres created by the band’s massive, reverb-laden sound, building to both cathartic and compelling lyrical moments. Ryynikki’s (they/them) razor-sharp lead guitar melodies, drummer Nathan (he/him) and bassist Matthew’s (he/him) propulsive rhythm section and guitar/synth player Billie (they/she) round out their galactic punk sound that perfectly back Lena’s exorcising vocal performance.

A day after the release of ‘Dark Synthetics,’ the band will be kicking off an East coast tour at Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh, taking their Richmond post-punk friends in Thin Pigeon out in support.
