Dutch newcomers Honey I’m Home are making waves with their debut single, Wishful Thinking—a soaring, euphoric dive into their signature brand of shimmering, head-in-the-clouds shoegaze.
The five-piece—Thom Schotanus, Sofie Ooteman, Jasper Meurs, Hugo de Groot, and Evelien Keesmaat—arrive with serious momentum, having already toured across Europe with Goat Girl and Hotline TNT. Their first official release, produced by the band and mixed by Sonny Diperri (Julie, DIIV, Protomartyr), perfectly blends fuzzy textures with an urgent pull toward irresistible melody.
But beneath Wishful Thinking’s hazy, sun-drenched sound lies a deeper story. Written in the wake of a devastating rehearsal space fire that destroyed their amps, guitars, and pedals, the track carries an unshakable sense of longing. Instead of dwelling in loss, the band channels that emotion into a cathartic, forward-looking anthem—an introspective yet uplifting daydream, where nostalgia meets optimism.
“We wanted to capture that feeling of wanting to reconnect with someone who’s no longer in your life,” says vocalist and guitarist Thom Schotanus. “Whether it’s a lost love or a departed family member, Wishful Thinking is about the intensity of that desire, wrapped in a layered, dreamlike soundscape.”
With lyrics like “everything will be fine” and “we’ll work out everything”, the song becomes a heartfelt pep talk, a musical reassurance wrapped in reverb-drenched bliss.
