The Black Queen, the LA-based experimental band\u00a0featuring Dillinger Escape Plan\u2019s Greg Puciato, Telefon Tel Aviv\/NIN\u2019s Josh Eustis and programmer Steven Alexander, release their debut album,\u00a0‘Fever Daydream,’ on Jan. 29.<\/p>\n

\u201cOriginally, we had envisioned this project being something much more gauzy and probably guitar-oriented,\u201d<\/em> said Eustis in an interview with Rolling stone. \u201cAt some point it just took a left turn and become very electronic.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 In the same interview Puciato joked, \u201cIt was rare to find someone else who I could talk about Death,\u00a0Leprosy, with as well as a New Edition song.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 It was those seemingly disparate influences that brought the three musicians together, from Puciato\u2019s teenage years of watching MTV\u2019s 120 Minutes while simultaneously knowing all of Jodeci\u2019s lyrics, Eustis\u2019 affinity for Kraftwerk and New Edition, and Alexander\u2019s childhood home, which championed as much metal as they did R&B.<\/p>\n

‘Fever Daydream’\u00a0was written and recorded in what the band has described as a hollowed-out, roach infested warehouse that they also lived in during recording, with Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, M83, The Naked and Famous) executive producing.<\/p>\n

The band has released\u00a0the video for Maybe We Should<\/em>, which continues The Black Queen\u2019s integration of striking, Corbijn-influenced visuals into their work.\u00a0 The clip, which is set in downtown Los Angeles, a location that has proved to be a major influence on the band\u2019s music, was filmed by Jesse Draxler and The Black Queen.
