Canadian Music Week’s\u00a0(CMW) 3-day\u00a0Music Summit\u00a0will end with a bang with the\u00a0Music Cities Summit\u00a0“The Mastering Of A Music City” on Friday, April\u00a021, 2017 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Music Cities Summit\u00a0will focus on seven key strategies that cities both large and small can use to grow and strengthen their music economy. Panels and presentations throughout the day-long summit include:\u00a0The Role of Advocates: A Story of Successfully Fighting For Your Music City\u00a0with Helen Marcou of Australia’s Bakehouse Studios;\u00a0Music Tourism Panel\u00a0with representatives from Music Canada Live, Sziget Festival and Constellation Brands Canada; and\u00a0How To Prevent Monoculture from Killing Our Music Cities\u00a0with Molly Neuman, the Head of Music at Kickstarter.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Music Cities Summit\u00a0explores the relationship between creative city planning, and the role music plays in quality-of-life for city residents with speakers from municipal governments and music industries from around the world including Toronto, Nashville, Milan, Bogota, Detroit, Brooklyn and beyond.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Music City Leader’s Panel\u00a0will feature senior elected officials, including Toronto\u00a0Mayor John Tory, Maria Claudia Lopez Sorzano\u00a0from the City of Bogota,\u00a0and\u00a0Mayor Richard Berry\u00a0from the City of Albuquerque, who have identified music as a key strategy or economic sector. They will discuss the associated opportunities and challenges, and the role the music community has played in strategy development and implementation.<\/p>\n

In addition, Toronto City Councillor\u00a0Josh Colle,\u00a0co-chair of the Toronto Music Industry Advisory Council, will lead a discussion called\u00a0How To Work With The Development Community\u00a0that focuses on the challenges facing small music venues in growing cities.<\/p>\n

Canadian Music Week\u00a0is Canada’s leading annual entertainment event dedicated to the expression and growth of the country’s music, media and entertainment industries. Combining four information-intensive conferences; a trade exposition; a film festival; a comedy festival; four awards shows and the nation’s largest new music festival, CMW spans a six-day period from April 18 to 23, 2017 at the Sheraton Centre Hotel, and in more than 50 downtown Toronto venues, attracting participants from across the globe.<\/p>\n
