Now, the band have shared the official\u00a0version of the track along with its\u00a0video. The song is the third single from the LP (due out October 6th via Buzz Records, Kanine &amp; Memphis Industries), following the\u00a0anthemic <a href=\"http:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/2017\/08\/09\/weaves-announce-new-lp-share-53\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>#53<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/2017\/08\/24\/weaves-share-walkaway-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Walkaway<\/em><\/a>, and is a dramatic departure from those initial offerings. Watch the Scream video via YouTube below.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Mq_gVwu6gf4?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Despite being longtime friends this is the first collaboration between Tagaq and Weaves&#8217; lead singer Jasmyn Burke, and their warped duet, which\u00a0builds from a slinking, minimal opening toward an arresting and searingly intense peak,\u00a0likely constitutes Weaves&#8217; wildest recording to date. Beginning with Burke&#8217;s stark\u00a0declaration that <em>&#8220;we are living in a time when misery is just common circumstance,&#8221;<\/em> the song is both a personal statement\u00a0and a\u00a0ferocious rebuke to the societal forces that seek to\u00a0erase and undermine marginalized voices.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I almost don&#8217;t think of &#8216;Scream&#8217;\u00a0as a song,\u00a0it&#8217;s like a sculpture in the middle of\u00a0the album, sticking out poking people like a 3D installation,&#8221;<\/em> says Burke.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The initial demo was just one guitar riff and me hitting my pant leg really hard\u00a0and the loop just stirred up some sort of emotional whirlwind in my mind. I think everyone is\u00a0having a hard time processing what&#8217;s happening\u00a0right now and I started thinking about how some people\u00a0hate or want to harm me because of my physical appearance, and that\u00a0made me want to write something about loving yourself.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;On tour we meet so many people, and often I meet young girls and women of colour who say they&#8217;ve never seen someone that looks like them represented in a rock band.\u00a0I just wanted to say, &#8216;hey, we&#8217;re here, we&#8217;re strong and we deserve to see ourselves reflected more often in the world.&#8217; Female identifying people regardless of race are not just one person &#8212; we have different ideals, passions, friends etc. and yet we get pigeon-holed or are systemically dismissed and treated as less.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;This song came out of my heart. The band and Tanya elevated it in a way that&#8217;s just real and raw. It&#8217;s definitely an experience.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with the release of the album Burke has announced her own line of lipstick, also called Wide Open. It was born from Burke&#8217;s\u00a0struggle\u00a0to find makeup that suits\u00a0her skin tone and her unconventional personal style,\u00a0and her desire to create something for &#8220;the tom-boys, shy weirdos, non-binary people and people of colour who sometimes feel invisible in the mainstream.&#8221;\u00a0The lipstick will be available as part of a preorder package with the LP (<a href=\"http:\/\/hivemindpr.us10.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=04780c244c226dd8f0096243b&amp;id=79f0be14c3&amp;e=998dd35436\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">linked here<\/a>),\u00a0on its own online\u00a0after\u00a0October 6th, and at shows on Weaves&#8217; upcoming tour, full details of which can be found below.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Wide Open&#8217; is due out October 6th via Buzz (Can), Kanine (US) &amp; Memphis Industries (RoW).
