From the misleading bedroom lo-fi ambience that begins <em>Height<\/em> to the arena-packing pop rock of <em>Missing<\/em> via the irresistible dance grooves of <em>Shedding<\/em>, Uchino never plays it safe for a second. Though he explores his whims and interests and wades into deep creative waters, \u2018There\u2019 is an album that never loses sight of the shore. Resolutely listenable from start to finish, it\u2019s a testament to Uchino\u2019s critical faculties as an artist that he always appears to be making the music he wants to hear. A master of space and texture \u2018There\u2019 is his opus and it\u2019s an album to fall in love with. Bookended by the festival-primed lushness of <em>Chains<\/em> at the start, and &#8216;Lonerism&#8217;\u00a0style wig-out <em>Alone In The Evening (1994)<\/em> at the end, \u2018There\u2019 is a joyride of a record, constructed meticulously by a young man who already feels like an old master.<\/p>\n<p>Uchino details the album: <em>\u201cThere\u2019s been so many things I\u2019ve experienced in the 4 years since I started touring abroad. My life had changed so much at that point and I felt like a new part of me was getting bigger and bigger. So I had to change something in me, like shed my skin off. But the winter was too cold for me to try and shed it somehow.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While this year\u2019s <em>Pale Blue<\/em> single may have set the stage for a more danceable Bee Gees style iteration of The fin.\u2019s sound, it doesn\u2019t really prepare you for the curveball of <em>Shedding<\/em>. Wielding the kind of restless R&amp;B funk that could make MJ moonwalk his way back from the grave, <em>Shedding<\/em> is the sound of Yuto Uchino crafting a veritable butt-shaker. A deeply psychedelic dance number, <em>Shedding<\/em> struts along irresistibly like a smooth-moving lothario before the beat packs up, leaving the song in a state of suspended psychedelic animation, then it bounces back to dazzle with its syncopated fractal charms. At the centre of it all is Yuto, lost in a world of his own creating and riding the limitless highs of artistic creation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More about The fin.?<\/strong> The fin. are a group comprised of Yuto Uchino (vocals and synths), Ryosuke Odagaki (guitar), and Kaoru Nakazawa (drums \/ bass). To date, they\u2019ve performed to thousands of rapturous fans worldwide at major festivals including Fuji Rock, SXSW and The Great Escape. In 2015, they released their debut UK EP &#8216;Night Time&#8217; through Lost In The Manor. Last year\u2019s &#8216;Through The Deep&#8217; EP was a cleverly refined follow-up and it prefaced their decision to move to London that autumn. Their tenure here has seen them develop themselves artistically through collaborations writing, recording, and touring with a wealth of British artists and producers like Brad Spence, All We Are, Circa Waves, Last Shadow Puppets, Petite Noir and many more. Praise has built quickly around the group and they\u2019ve achieved over two million Spotify plays for their stylish Europhile blend of synth-pop, chillwave and dream-pop, complete with English lyrics addressing universal themes of everyday uncertainties.
