Etsy: Made in Canada<\/a> returns for its fifth annual one-day, cross-country marketplace on Saturday, September 29. This year, the national grassroots initiative celebrates local makers in 37 communities across Canada, showcasing the best in unique and creative goods.<\/p>\n

Canada’s largest national pop-up has nearly doubled in scope since its debut in 2014, which saw 45,000 attendees in 20 cities. Last year, total attendance rose to 100,000, with more expected this year. Organized by a collaborative team of Etsy makers, each marketplace represents the spirit of its community and a celebration of the country’s growing maker movement.<\/p>\n

“The success and growth of Etsy: Made in Canada over the past five years is a testament to the incredible community of makers here in Canada,”<\/em> says Erin Green, Managing Director, Etsy Canada. “Our mission at Etsy has always been to connect buyers and sellers, fostering the values that make Etsy so unique as a platform. I’m incredibly proud of the work that’s gone into building this community and reaching this milestone.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Etsy events like these strengthen communities and empower Canada’s micro business economy. With the recent growth in entrepreneurship, many sellers have quit their day job to focus more on their creative business. According to a 2018 Etsy seller census report, 38 per cent of Canadian sellers consider their creative business their sole occupation. Of those who are still employed full-time, 36 per cent say that they would like to leave in order to devote more to their business in the coming years.<\/p>\n
