Editors\u00a0have announced their upcoming best of album\u00a0‘Black Gold,’ which will be out October 25th via Play It Again Sam.\u00a0‘Black Gold’\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>will include 13 tracks from their 6 studio albums, alongside 3 brand new offerings: Upside Down<\/em>, festival anthem Frankenstein<\/em> (check out the supernatural video\u00a0here<\/a>) and the gothically dramatic title track Black Gold<\/em> (you can grab this track now).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band will also be hitting the road on a 27-date European and UK Greatest Hits tour in early 2020, which will see them play shows in\u00a0Birmingham,\u00a0Manchester,\u00a0Dublin and\u00a0Glasgow, with a landmark performance at\u00a0London\u2019s\u00a0SSE Arena Wembley set for Friday 28th February. The cover photograph for ‘Black Gold’ was shot by award winning photographer\u00a0Nadav Kander\u00a0<\/strong>and the album artwork was designed by celebrated graphic designer\u00a0Tom Hingston\u00a0<\/strong>(Massive Attack, Chemical Brothers, The Rolling Stones).\u00a0The album also comes in a deluxe 2CD version, which includes a second disc of 8 stripped back recordings of tracks from the band\u2019s catalogue titled \u2018Distance: The Acoustic Recordings\u2019.\u00a0
\u201cConversations about a Best Of\u2026 had been going on for the past three or four years, but it never felt like the right moment<\/em>,\u201d says frontman\u00a0Tom Smith. \u201cWe were always cracking on with a new album<\/em>.\u201d But singer\/guitarist\/pianist Smith,\u00a0Russell Leetch\u00a0(bass, synths) and\u00a0Ed Lay\u00a0<\/strong>(drums, percussion) had made three albums with original guitarist\u00a0Chris Urbanowicz, and three with newer members\u00a0Justin Lockey\u00a0<\/strong>(guitar) and\u00a0Elliott Williams\u00a0<\/strong>(guitars, keyboards), \u201cso it felt like a good time to do it<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And so they reached out again to Garrett\u00a0\u201c<\/strong>Jacknife\u201d Lee\u00a0<\/strong>(U2, Snow Patrol, REM, The Killers), the Grammy-winning producer who worked with Editors on their #1 sophomore album\u00a0‘An End Has a Start,’ to produce the three songs that would go alongside a collection of tracks spanning 15 years, 6 studio albums and over 2.5 million album sales. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amongst the tracklist is the adrenalized, shivery blast that is Munich<\/em>, top 10 indie rock anthem Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors<\/em>, and the pulsing, synth-driven Papillon<\/em>. The full track listing is below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From their Mercury Prize shortlisted debut\u00a0‘The Back Room,’ to #1 debuting\u00a0‘An End Has A Start,’ platinum selling\u00a0‘In This Light and On This Evening,’ sprawling, transitional\u00a0‘The Weight of Your Love,’ moody, self-produced\u00a0‘In Dream‘\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>and their 6th top 10 album in a row, 2018\u2019s ‘Violence,’ Editors have refused to either stay still or compromise. This is perhaps the key to their longevity. It also no doubt also owes something to a hugely dedicated fanbase, both home and abroad, which sees them regularly performing sold out tours across the UK, Europe and further afield, as well as headlining festivals ahead of many more household names, such as 2018\u2019s Werchter Classic Festival in Belgium, which they headlined and curated with Kraftwerk and The National supporting.\u00a0
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo still be doing this is something I\u2019m very proud of<\/em>,\u201d says Smith. \u201cThese days longevity might not be seen as cool, but I think it is. We\u2019ve solidified what this new version of the band is, and I think the new songs show that the band are hungry<\/em>.\u00a0We\u2019ve always felt like outsiders, but wanted to write songs that connect with people emotionally, and resonate in a deeper way. That can sound pretentious and contrived, but there are people out there that our band mean a lot to. That\u2019s what I always wanted.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Black Gold’\u00a0is a chance to reflect on the past 15 years, but it also offers a glimpse into a very exciting future for one of the UK\u2019s most enduring and perhaps unexpected musical success stories of this century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
