The track received acclaim from\u00a0The FADER,\u00a0NPR, and\u00a0Brooklyn Vegan, all of whom widely praised <em>Home<\/em> as a welcome comeback, leaving fans yearning for more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Snaith follows up that single with the announcement of a new Caribou album,\u00a0\u2018Suddenly,\u2019 to be released via Merge Records\u00a0on February 28, 2020. It also captures a lot of what the record, and the title of the album, are about<\/em>&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;<em>the track changes suddenly and unpredictably, and it is about a change in my life that happened out of the blue.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Suddenly\u2019\u00a0is the most surprising and unpredictable Caribou album to date. Though it retains the trademark Caribou warmth and technicolor, this album is littered with swerves and left turns. Songs drop out and morph into something else entirely just as they\u2019re hitting their stride, samples chopped up beyond all recognition burst out of nowhere. <em>You and I<\/em> starts as a dreamy, undeniably Caribou-esque love song before breaking down into a huge chorus peppered with sampled yelps, and finally going completely rogue with a screaming guitar solo, which swaggers into being from nowhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/49165076838_25fd812c7f_k.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"Caribou Suddenly cover art\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Pre-order\u00a0\u2018Suddenly\u2019\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"here (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.caribou.lnk.to\/suddenly\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2014, Dan Snaith, aka Caribou, released\u00a0\u2018Our Love\u2018\u00a0to overwhelming critical acclaim, a Polaris Prize nomination, and year-end recognition from\u00a0Rolling Stone,\u00a0Consequence of Sound,\u00a0and\u00a0Pitchfork,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>who recently declared the album one of the best of the 2010s. Now, Caribou returns with his seventh studio album,\u00a0\u2018Suddenly,\u2019 an album about family and the changes we go through as those relationships evolve.\u00a0\u2018Our Love\u2018 provided an open-armed exploration of the concept of love in its grandest form, both as an expression of gratitude to his fans and as an examination of that one thing that matters most in life.\u00a0\u2018Suddenly,\u2019 however, takes that concept and winnows it down, directly applying it to real life and the people to whom that love means the most.\u00a0\u2018Suddenly\u2019 refers to the moments of dramatic and unexpected change that occur at points in any life and within any family\u00a0\u2013\u00a0universal themes that catch you off guard and change your life in a heartbeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As with previous Caribou albums,\u00a0\u2018Suddenly\u2018\u00a0was mined from hundreds of draft ideas (this time over 900). \u201c<br>\u201d Snaith says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a moment where the daunting piling up of rough ideas morphs into an album quickly taking shape. \u201c<em>For the last few albums at least, there\u2019s been a point about three-quarters of the way through where I work late into the night (as usual), but when I try and go to bed, ideas keep forcing me to get up and go back to the studio again,<\/em>\u201d Snaith recalls. \u201c<em>It happens over and over in one night. I can feel the gears whirring as I lie there trying to sleep, and I can\u2019t ignore the ideas for fear that it will be gone when I wake up the next morning.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So for all the strings Snaith has to his bow these days, this is the drive to continue to make Caribou albums. Full bodies of work where Snaith is able to evaluate things, look at those around him, and celebrate them.
