Brooklyn based duo\u00a0Sufis\u00a0have announced that they will be releasing a new album in 2020 via Burger Records. The album\u00a0\u2018Double Exposure\u2019\u00a0is Sufis\u2019 third release with Burger and will be available as a limited run cassette tape and streaming on all major platforms on\u00a0January 24th.\u00a0The album announcement is accompanied by the release of two tracks lifted from the album\u00a0Outta My Mind<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a05 AM<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 AM<\/em> <\/strong>is a Felt inspired track steeped in melancholy. Calvin Laporte explains \u201c5 AM is a moody track we wrote inspired mostly by that dark feeling you get when you\u2019ve stayed up all night and you\u2019re by yourself waiting for the sun to come up.\u201d<\/em> Of the process of writing the track, co-songwriter Evan Smith says \u201cWe actually connected separate demos that both had that melancholic vibe so it was cool to hear everything come together in the end as a duet of sorts.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A prime example of the duo’s willingness to experiment with any sound,\u00a0Outta My Mind<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>features a vacuum cleaner. \u201cOutta My Mind was inspired by a conversation we had with Lee from Burger Records backstage at a Redd Kross show in NYC. He turned us on to Destroy All Monsters that night so the idea of using a vacuum cleaner on a track really stuck in my mind\u201d<\/em> Laporte explains.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sufis\u00a0are an Anglo-Indian\/American band based on the writing partnership of Calvin Laporte and Evan Smith. During a chance meeting at Belmont University in Nashville, they connected over a shared love of the Elephant 6 Collective and 20th-century classical music.\u00a0\u2018Double Exposure\u2018\u00a0is Sufis\u2019 fourth album and was recorded and mixed by Laport and Smith themselves. The track\u00a0Can\u2019t Go There<\/em>\u00a0features Yoed Nir (Judy Collins, Regina Spektor, Psychic Ills) on strings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
