Who thinks he has a higher purpose and is supposed to be an ambassador to a higher extraterrestrial race. It\u2019s a looming atmospheric rhythm and crawl.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Director, Justin Cober\u00a0adds: &#8220;<em>In an attempt to achieve a higher purpose in life, the subject instead witnesses their own deteriorating mental posture. As a means of overcoming assumed existential risk (the hurdles of our great filter), the subject looks above and within believing that they alone have been chosen to solve the problems that our species faces. Images of Eva Szasz&#8217; 1968 short film &#8216;Cosmic Zoom&#8217;, produced by the National Film Board of Canada were cast over foliage to make for fitting imagery, complementing the narrative.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since their formation in 2016, YDR have developed their bombastic approach to psychedelia\u00a0by releasing\u00a0two EPs \u2013 working with Efrim Menuck (Godspeed You! Black Emperor) and\u00a0Braids&#8217;\u00a0Austen Tufts and Taylor Smith \u2013 as well as a music video for the piece, <em>The Moral Compass Of A Self-Driving Car<\/em>. More recently, the three-piece\u00a0released a split 7\u201d via Mothland, featuring legendary Japanese experimental titans,\u00a0Acid Mothers Temple, and the single <em>March\u00e9 Pt. 3 (Ft. Jasmine Trails)<\/em>, found on the\u00a0\u2018Sounds From Mothland Volume I\u2019 mixtape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Live, Yoo Doo Right are straight-up loud, bold and assertive, laying on the boom with moxie, enveloping the audience in a brazen cloak-like musical fabric as the outside world disappears. Songs are played with a purpose, sets are built with an intent to unify, and expression takes on an intricate psychedelic form. Over the years, YDR have toured all of Canada and the United States, playing festivals such as\u00a0Austin\u2019s Levitation Psych Fest,\u00a0M for Montreal, Sled Island\u00a0and\u00a0Pop Montreal\u00a0along the way. In 2018, they embarked on an epic journey, taking on main support duties for\u00a0Acid Mothers Temple\u2019s\u00a0North American tour, adding to the list of international bands they have shared the stage with that also includes\u00a0DIIV, A Place to Bury Strangers, Wooden Shjips, Kikagaku Moyo, FACS, Frigs\u00a0and\u00a0Jessica Moss, amongst others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Don\u2019t Think You Can Escape Your Purpose\u2019 album details<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2019, Yoo Doo Right retreated to the studio to work on a debut album. Recorded between Montreal and Quebec City,\u00a0\u2018Don\u2019t Think You Can Escape Your Purpose\u2019 proved another rewarding challenge for the three-piece, again aiming for new sonic horizons and pushing the krautrock, shoegaze and post-rock genres towards their ill-defined, proverbial \u201climits\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0production spanned several weeks, harnessing the band\u2019s vision alongside engineers\u00a0Sebastien Fournier (Avec Le Soleil Sortant De Sa Bouche, Panopticon Eyelids, No Negative)\u00a0at Hotel2Tango and\u00a0Guillaume Chiasson (Ponctuation, Jesuslesfilles, Double Date With Death)\u00a0at Le Pantoum, with\u00a0Harris Newman (Wolf Parade, A Silver Mt. Zion, We Are Wolves)\u00a0taking on mastering duties again.
