Barrow-in-Furness based punks\u00a0The Liars Club\u00a0have shared the\u00a0video for their new single Freak<\/em>, that was released on June 18, 2021. The track is the latest to be lifted from their new EP \u2018Of Self,\u2019 which is out now via Neoprima Music.

Commenting on the themes behind the track, the band said:\u00a0\u201cFreak is about a burglary that goes wrong. Unbeknownst to him, the burglar enters a sadistic murderer\u2019s house and the song is about the consequences of the meeting between the two. There is no message, just an exaggerated story of what makes people tick in a moment of insanity and injustice when the switch is flicked.\u201d<\/em>

The band\u2019s forthcoming second EP\u00a0\u2018Of Self\u2019 is the follow-up to their much-hyped 2018 debut EP\u00a0\u2018Dormant,\u2019 with recently-released singles 8 Tonne<\/em><\/a> and Tutankhamun<\/em><\/a> picking up a flurry of early support from\u00a0GIGWISE, VISIONS, Vive Le Rock, Under The Radar, Maximum Volume, Punktastic\u00a0and\u00a0The Punk Site.

The tracks were also added to the X-Posure playlist on\u00a0Radio X, picking up further spins from Jack Saunders at\u00a0BBC Radio 1, Tom Robinson at\u00a0BBC 6 Music, rotation at\u00a0Amazing Radio,\u00a0KEXP\u2019s legendary punk show Sonic Reducer,\u00a0BBC introducing Cumbria, and support from\u00a0Total Rock, Hard Rock Hell Radio, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Returning to Wolverhampton\u2019s Magic Garden Studios in February 2020, the band reunited with Dormant producer Gavin Monaghan (The Blinders, Goldblade) intent on channeling the fury of their fast-becoming-legendary mosh pits at Barrow\u2019s Underground Music Society (more affectionately known as B.U.M.S), with the band riding a wave of support from Huw Stephens (BBC R1) and Tom Robinson (BBC 6music), and spending several weeks on the Amazing Radio A List.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBecause the studio was familiar our chemistry was even stronger,\u201d<\/em> says Johnson. \u201cIt\u2019s the sound of us having a good time, letting go and escaping our normality.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stoking the fires of creativity from the band\u2019s den above their local high street record shop, TNT Records, Johnson (Vox), Daniel Milmine (Guitar), Frank Kendall (Bass) and Matt Southwell (Drums) pull positivity from the bleakest corners of the UK. \u201cBarrow made us, so we don\u2019t hate it; we deal with it,\u201d<\/em> says Johnson. \u201cWe\u2019re just four working class lads making an honest living in \u2018the man\u2019 industries which fund many lives in our town, but as soon as we\u2019re on stage we become what we want to be\u2026we\u2019re accomplishing our dreams.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hot on the heels of fellow noise punk bands like Viagra Boys, Squid, Black Midi, TV Priest, Chubby and The Gang and Daughters, and as combustible as 1970s punk-rock heroes The Ruts, their merciless swathes of new age punk is nothing if not brutally honest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fuelled by the calibration of each member\u2019s genre-spanning influences the band equally share the restlessness of Noah\u2019s love for jazz and soul as the bounce of Dan\u2019s appreciation for hip-hop and rock. \u201cWe\u2019ve built our music tastes by just enjoying what we like and appreciating those we may not. There\u2019s no limit, no stopping point; new music comes out all the time and lies waiting for someone to dig it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether targeting austerity, physical and mental abuse in relationships, or \u201cthe never-ending repetition of culturalism in modern day society,\u201d<\/em> their material to date demonstrates a band wholly aware of humanity\u2019s ignorance to the things it doesn\u2019t wish to hear about, whilst simultaneously recognising its existence and having a whole lot of fun in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
