Brighton-based feminist electropunk trio\u00a0CLT DRP\u00a0are delighted to announce their return with\u00a0new single Ownership<\/em>\u00a0via Small Pond. The news comes ahead of a run of\u00a0November 2021 UK tour dates\u00a0supporting\u00a0Svalbard\u00a0and\u00a0Heriot, with tickets\u00a0on sale now\u00a0(see below for listings).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spending the last 18 months finding their feet as individuals and as a collective band again, the single is the first look at new material from the band since the release of their rave-reviewed debut album Without The Eyes<\/em> in 2020, and sees a further evolution of their eclectic, experimental approach to fusing electronic and punk music in boundary breaking fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Somewhere between EDM inspired electro-punk and quasi-satirical female pop, the new single delves deeper into their ever-changing sonic world, as guitarist Scott reveals influence from\u00a0Mr. Oizo\u2019s seminal hit Flat Beat<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commenting on the single, vocalist Annie Dorret says: \u201cSomeone I was seeing a while back told me that they didn\u2019t like the idea of ownership in a relationship and it stuck with me in a weird way. Ownership is such a heavy term, and it\u2019s something that people have such a varied response to. It can be romanticized by some, totally toxic to others or valued in some situations. I\u2019ve had unhealthy dynamics attached to it in romantic relationships, friendships and employment.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis feeling that your physical body, time and\/or mental energy is owed to or controlled by somebody else is a pretty dominating thing. I think sometimes we internalize those feelings and attach them to our identity, I know I certainly do. This song was just a way of understanding the frustration behind those feelings and processing how to take the power back for myself I guess.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The single comes with an official video directed and edited by\u00a0Bucky Illingworth <\/a>with\u00a0Jared Christiansen<\/a>\u00a0as director of photography. Illingworth says of the visuals:\u00a0“We wanted to illuminate power dynamics that are tearing apart our world. The way private property has abstracted and disoriented our cooperation with nature. The way that wage labor has dominated our bodies and our time. The way surveillance looks to feed on our minds. A call to arms to get mad at those who feel ownership of humanity and the planet.
