South London duo\u00a0Shelf Lives\u00a0have announced their debut mini-album ‘Yes, offence’\u00a0will be released in April 2022. The\u00a0announcement coincides with the release of new single Mark Twain<\/em>, which arrives on\u00a0the back of\u00a0their\u00a0uncompromising self-titled debut single Shelf Life<\/em>. Both tracks will appear on ‘Yes, offence’ next year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A two and a half minute electro-garage-rock\u00a0treatise on personal authenticity and self-expression, Mark Twain<\/em> emerges from the bands ongoing creative collaboration with producer\u00a0Space\u00a0(IDLES, Do Nothing<\/em>. It follows\u00a0recent live shows with fellow risers\u00a0False Heads, Speedy Wunderground-signed\u00a0moa moa\u00a0and a full UK tour with acclaimed Copenhagen duo\u00a0Palace Winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Employing\u00a0flailing electronic breakbeats, glitched-out\u00a0synths and churning distorted guitars, new single Mark Twain<\/em> is a prime example of the band’s post-punk\/trash-pop amalgam. The single is released\u00a0alongside another video collaboration with\u00a0director duo\u00a0Florence Poppy Deary and\u00a0Francesca Van Haverbeke (aka\u00a0FLAN<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on\u00a0the new single, Shelf Lives singer Sabrina said:\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re in an age of self-expression which comes hand-in-hand with opinion. We\u2019re being told by each other who we can and can\u2019t be, what we can and can\u2019t feel and how to express it. Mark Twain is a, sort of, commentary on the confusion and complexity this behaviour creates of something meant to be genuine and authentic. It becomes safer to be emotionless, or at least perceived as, but as we waste these moments of vulnerability and expression a resentment and sadness build.
