{"id":38428,"date":"2022-09-06T17:15:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-06T21:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=38428"},"modified":"2022-09-05T09:45:53","modified_gmt":"2022-09-05T13:45:53","slug":"iceage-announce-compilation-album-shake-the-feeling-outtakes-rarities-2015-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=38428","title":{"rendered":"Iceage announce compilation album \u2018Shake The Feeling: Outtakes &#038; Rarities 2015-2021\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Iceage\u00a0have announced\u00a0\u2018Shake The Feeling: Outtakes &amp; Rarities 2015-2021,\u2019 their new compilation album out\u00a0September 23rd\u00a0on Mexican Summer, and have shared its\u00a0title track.\u00a0\u2018Shake The Feeling: Outtakes &amp; Rarities 2015-2021\u2019\u00a0is a collection of non-LP cuts (or \u201cmisfit children,\u201d as singer\u00a0Elias Bender R\u00f8nnenfelt\u00a0describes them) from the seven years during which Iceage made\u00a0\u2018Plowing Into the Field of Love\u2019\u00a0(2014),\u00a0\u2018Beyondless\u2019 (2018), and\u00a0\u2018Seek Shelter\u2019\u00a0(2021). A study in the powerful song form and raw execution that have defined the Danish rock \u2018n\u2019 roll band, this release digs deep into the Iceage vault for unheard and rare tracks that both devotees and the uninitiated alike will relish.<br><br><em>Shake The Feeling<\/em>, written and recorded during the\u00a0\u2018Beyondless\u2019 sessions, was left off for being deemed \u201chappy go lucky.\u201d \u201c<em>We thought this one to be a little too \u2018nice\u2019 and well behaved at the time,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0explains R\u00f8nnenfelt.<em>\u00a0\u201cI didn\u2019t want to learn the song, so I ended up improvising on the final take we did before abandoning it. In hindsight, I find the song to be completely sprawling with an impulsiveness difficult to capture on purpose<\/em>.\u00a0<em>It has some of the guitar work I\u2019m personally most proud of.<\/em>\u201d The video, directed by\u00a0Alex Cantouris, intercuts behind-the-scenes clips of the band with intimate performance footage from last year\u2019s Pitchfork London. Watch the video for <em>Shake The Feeling<\/em> via YouTube below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wzvFof493ZY?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As with all of Iceage\u2019s albums, whether it be the sensual daring-do of their dark-hardcore debut\u00a0\u2018You\u2019re Nothing,\u2019 the shift to cowpunk gothic romanticism on\u00a0\u2018Plowing Into the Field of Love,\u2019 or the space truckin\u2019 gospel-rock of their most recent albums, R\u00f8nnenfelt,\u00a0Johan Suurballe Wieth,\u00a0Jakob Tvilling Pless\u00a0and\u00a0Dan Kj\u00e6r Nielsen\u00a0make the impossible seem effortless. True to Iceage\u2019s confounding instincts, the songs of\u00a0\u2018Shake The Feeling\u2019\u00a0are presented in the order that makes most sense to them. The album proceeds to jump forward and backwards in time, with tracks written in the four years between\u00a0\u2018Plowing Into The Field of Love\u2019\u00a0and\u00a0\u2018Seek Shelter\u2019\u00a0colliding with covers of two 1960s songs (\u201cI\u2019ll Keep It With Mine\u201d by Bob Dylan and Abner Jay\u2019s \u201cMy Mule\u201d).<br><br>As to whether\u00a0\u2018Shake The Feeling\u2019 has a dominant theme, Elias says: \u201c<em>not really, and then somehow yes.<\/em>\u201d \u201cNo, but also yes\u201d is as perfect an encapsulation of an Iceage-ian ethos as there could ever be. More than just about any other band from Europe working within American rock \u2018n\u2019 roll traditions, Iceage maintain their initial embracement of the no-but-yes life-affirming negativity of punk and hardcore. Maybe Elias considers\u00a0\u2018Shake The Feeling\u2019 to be more a document of Iceage at different points of the members\u2019 young lives than a \u201c<em>piece of artwork.\u201d<\/em> Maybe the fact that the songs \u201c<em>seem like they can get along\u201d<\/em> is enough. Conversely, maybe the songs on\u00a0\u2018Shake the Feeling\u2019\u00a0work together as well as any band of outsiders, huddling alone together in the world\u2019s dark.
