Liverpool synth quartet Ladytron have announced their highly anticipated seventh studio album\u00a0\u2018Time\u2019s Arrow,\u2019 and shared the lead single\u00a0City of Angels<\/em><\/a>. The single\u2019s video, directed by Manuel Nogueira will will be out soon. The album is set for release via Cooking Vinyl\u00a0on January 20, 2023\u00a0with a UK tour to follow in March. US live shows will be announced soon.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

City of Angels<\/em>\u00a0is their first new music released since 2019\u2019s critically acclaimed eponymous album.\u00a0 Over Ladytron’s insistent analogue backing, the song inverts sensuous imagery into a vision of a near future collapse of cultural memory.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s about forgetting,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0says Daniel Hunt,\u00a0\u201c\u2026how fragile it is\u201d, “…not about one particular place or other, but a merging of them.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beauty, disposability and fragility of the culture that surrounds us, and the exhilaration of freeing yourself from those structures\u2026 these are themes Ladytron return to on\u00a0\u2018Time\u2019s Arrow\u2019.\u00a0Crystalline melodies enveloped in icy textures and rippling arpeggios, shoegaze, disco, and industrial sounds that combine in their signature electro pop style.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mood of\u00a0\u2018Time\u2019s Arrow\u2019\u00a0is strangely optimistic, freeing \u2013 utopian, even. Have they left dystopia behind?\u00a0\u201cWe’re already there,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Helen Marnie points out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fittingly,\u00a0\u2018Time\u2019s Arrow\u2019\u00a0arrives as another moment from Ladytron\u2019s past recently returned, as the tides of the digital ocean moved in mysterious ways. Last month Ladytron celebrated the 20th anniversary of their formative 2002 LP\u00a0\u2018Light&Magic\u2019\u00a0(Nettwerk). In mid-2021 the album\u2019s single Seventeen<\/em> went viral on TikTok, sending the track into top 10s around the world. A new disaffected generation was introduced to Ladytron\u2019s music, with some 200,000 clips created, many of them with millions of views each. A twenty-year-old song by a group whose very existence predated social media itself: electronic pop quartet Ladytron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the strange rebirth of Seventeen<\/em> shows, great work creates its own space. It never dies.\u00a0\u2018Time\u2019s Arrow\u2019\u00a0glides through your heart \u2013 from the past to the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
