The eagerly anticipated sophomore effort following 2021\u2019s\u00a0\u2018Shirushi\u2019<em>\u00a0<\/em>will be released\u00a0on\u00a0June 9\u00a0via\u00a0Kill Rock Stars. Accompanying the news is the album\u2019s hard-charging lead single and opening track, <em>Garakuta<\/em> (which roughly translates to \u2018goods of no more use nor value\u2019), alongside a music video animated and directed by TEKE::TEKE\u2019s own\u00a0Maya Kuroki\u00a0(vocals) and\u00a0Sei Nakauchi Pelletier\u00a0(guitar). First premiered via\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/girlieaction.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1d59aca4aeedaab429816159e&amp;id=b22cf6e53b&amp;e=3a430a552a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Consequence<\/em><\/a>, <em>Garakuta<\/em> matches muscly intensity with moments of cloudy meditation\u2014like a world-class high jumper finding bliss at the apex of their leap.\u00a0<br><br>Framed by regal flute and guitar, a thumping rhythm section, and gravelly backing vocals, Kuroki delivers a reverb-drenched rallying cry, which she calls\u00a0<em>\u201ca song of rebellion for all that has been thrown out of this world.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0And as the band\u2019s psychedelic roil comes to a climax, her Japanese dips into a mellifluous breath to paint a landscape of plastic flowers, polystyrene snow, and mountains of cellphones.\u00a0<em>\u201cIndeed, it\u2019s a sort of anthemic song for the rebellion of wastes\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/em>expands Kuroki.\u00a0<em>\u201cI imagined a world where everything we throw out came back to protest\u2026 And I\u2019m not necessarily only thinking from an environmental perspective, it is rather an analogy for anything or anybody that is cast out of society because they are considered useless by the norm.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watch<strong> <\/strong><em>Garakuta<\/em> via YouTube below or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/girlieaction.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1d59aca4aeedaab429816159e&amp;id=ffa1dbd3f4&amp;e=3a430a552a\">l<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/girlieaction.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1d59aca4aeedaab429816159e&amp;id=ffa1dbd3f4&amp;e=3a430a552a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">isten<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-9HoYHxjs5Y?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the album,&nbsp;<em>\u201c\u2018Hagata\u2019 is a very deep word, something present but also something leftover from someone or something no longer there,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;Kuroki explains.&nbsp;<em>\u201cIt&#8217;s like waking up from a dream, or being connected to the other side of something.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;TEKE::TEKE are intimately familiar with that duality, of splitting reality between past and present, complex melodies and hushed interludes, intense action and lingering response. After building their sound on&nbsp;<em>Shirushi<\/em>&nbsp;through careful assembly of countless splinters of Japanese folk, psychedelia, Brazilian surf rock, and other far-flung touchstones, the seven-piece indulged in and learned from stretching out in free-floating experimentation both on the road and with&nbsp;<em>Hagata<\/em>\u2019s producer&nbsp;Daniel Schlett&nbsp;(The War On Drugs,&nbsp;DIIV,&nbsp;CHAI,&nbsp;Nick Hakim), recorded in a scenic studio in Mountain Dale, New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mcusercontent.com\/1d59aca4aeedaab429816159e\/_compresseds\/82cfbaad-3d08-2a97-804b-50c53afbeb43.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"\u2018Hagata\u2019 Album Art\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Credit: Maya Kuroki<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018<strong><u>Hagata\u2019&nbsp;Tracklist<\/u><\/strong><br>1.
