South-London born, Atlanta-based multi-hyphenate\u00a0Puma Blue\u00a0\u2013 the alias of Jacob Allen \u2013 has announced that his second album,\u00a0\u2018Holy Waters\u2019 will be released\u00a0on\u00a0September 1\u00a0via\u00a0Blue Flowers. The news is accompanied by new single,\u00a0Pretty<\/em>\u00a0and a video inspired by film-noir which comes just ahead of an intimate U.S. headline run (dates below).\u00a0Death nestles like a sweet creature at the heart of\u00a0\u2018Holy Waters,\u2019 the highly anticipated follow-up to 2021\u2019s debut\u00a0\u2018In Praise of Shadows\u2019. It\u2019s less a morbid study in mortality, more a chronicle of the graciousness within each repeated cycle of life, death and rebirth. A substantial leap in Jacob\u2019s artistry, across its eleven tracks, he retraces every path walked in the harshest years of his life with a startling sincerity. Recorded with his live band over the course of two visits to Eastbourne\u2019s Echo Zoo Studios in 2022,\u00a0\u2018Holy Waters\u2019\u00a0marks a sharp departure from the solo bedroom productions of early EP releases, 2017\u2019s\u00a0\u2018Swum Baby\u2019\u00a0and 2018\u2019s\u00a0\u2018Blood Loss,\u2019 and his nocturnal debut album, produced in isolation in 2020. The studio techniques are more analogue and experimental, but sounding fuller, richer and paying their band-centric debts proudly. Inspired still by luminaries from Jeff Buckley to Bj\u00f6rk, more important to\u00a0\u2018Holy Waters\u2019\u00a0is Portishead\u2019s marriage of a live band and production, and the improvisational work of CAN and Hendrix.\u00a0Collaboration has been creeping into Jacob\u2019s other work recently too, fresh from production and writing credits on Loyle Carner\u2019s latest,\u00a0Hugo<\/em>, alongside an impressive list of co-writes with Biig Piig, Mahalia, and Lava La Rue among others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On\u00a0Holy Waters\u00a0<\/em>the list of co-producers and contributors includes Andrew Sarlo (Bon Iver, Nick Hakim), Gabe Wax (Soccer Mommy, Adrianne Lenker), Sam Petts-Davies (Warpaint, The Smile) and Luke Smith (Foals, Depeche Mode) who brought the \u201cugliness\u201d to new single Pretty<\/em> as Jacob explains; \u201c\u2018Pretty\u2019 is about feeling ugly. So ugly that sometimes you can\u2019t believe the person who loves you sees you how they do.
