London\u00a0trio\u00a0headboy\u00a0have shared their new single Reservoir<\/em> – the latest taste of the band’s\u00a0upcoming debut EP\u00a0‘Was It What You Thought’, out\u00a0June\u00a09th via\u00a0Blitzcat Records. In recent months the band have played host to an\u00a0<\/strong>exhilarating\u00a0run of sold-out headline shows in the capital, alongside notable\u00a0support slots with\u00a0Porridge Radio,\u00a0Goat Girl, DEADLETTER, Peaness, Melin Melyn,\u00a0Hotel Lux,\u00a0Heartworms\u00a0and\u00a0THUS LOVE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swaying\u00a0from lo-fi bedroom tones\u00a0to tumultuous blasts of snarling post-punk,\u00a0headboy’s blend of influences, ranging from\u00a0Sleater-Kinney\u00a0and\u00a0Radiohead\u00a0to\u00a0Modest Mouse\u00a0and\u00a0Grizzly Bear\u00a0informs the immediacy of their sound, whilst the band also note\u00a0the impact of post-punk and no wave acts \u00e1 la\u00a0Gang Of Four,\u00a0Orange Juice, Pixies\u00a0and\u00a0Television.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consisting of guitarist\/bassist and vocalist\u00a0Mars West\u00a0(they\/them), bassist\/guitarist\u00a0vocalist\u00a0Jess Collins\u00a0(she\/they) and drummer\u00a0Oli Birbeck\u00a0(they\/them),\u00a0headboy\u00a0have already established themselves as a beguiling\u00a0force to be reckoned with on the live stage, cultivating a devoted following in London and further afield, following press and radio tips from\u00a0Steve Lamacq\u00a0(BBC 6 Music), So Young Magazine, The Independent, Gigwise, The Rodeo\u00a0+ more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New\u00a0single Reservoir<\/em> tells a story of passion, intimacy and connection in the disorientating aftermath of a breakup;\u00a0venturing into single life. Delivered through a lens of deceptively dark, climactic\u00a0post-punk, Reservoir<\/em> tracks\u00a0those brief,\u00a0fleeting moments of lust, in a haze of sweaty, dimly lit\u00a0clubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What started out as a demo Mars West recorded at 3am after a night out, has evolved into a racing portrayal of infatuation and unaddressed sexual tension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the lyrical inspiration behind Reservoir<\/em>, lyricist Mars West said\u00a0“This song is about what you think this song is about. Or maybe not. You are over the breakup and now desperately trying to work out if your crush is crushing on you too. Small smoke signals of attraction. Sustained eye contact.\u00a0Microscopic hand movements. The back and forth – a stilted game of tennis.\u00a0Are you really ready to begin all this again?”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accompanying video for Reservoir<\/em> was directed by the band’s own Mars West. On its creation and themes, they said:\u00a0“Shot in 24 hours around our hometown of London, the video draws on themes of connection and tension. It serves as an eerie but in some ways softer counterpoint to the track. New connections can make us feel alien; walking the line between excitement and fear.
