Scottish alternative rock band\u00a0PAWS\u00a0have announced the release their anticipated\u00a0self-titled album via\u00a0<\/strong>Ernest Jenning Record Co.\u00a0and the band’s own\u00a0Wish Fulfillment Press\u00a0(order<\/a>). The album arrives after the release of singles\u00a0Uncertain<\/em>,<\/a> One Nation Under Dog<\/em><\/a> and <\/a><\/strong>Disenchanted<\/em><\/a>\u00a0which caught the ears of writers at\u00a0NPR, Flood Magazine, Brooklyn Vegan\u00a0and many more.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The album will be released on evergreen coloured vinyl, as a deluxe LP w\/ 28 page zine, CD, cassette and digitally. The zine is a 28 page full colour A5 zine with behind the scenes studio photos and artwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAWS have announced a fall\u00a0UK co-headlining tour with labelmates Worriers\u00a0and\u00a0headline shows in select markets.\u00a0All upcoming shows are listed below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the release of their fourth LP, 2019’s\u00a0\u2018Your Church On My Bonfire,\u2019 PAWS\u00a0– the Scottish DIY indie rock songwriting partnership of\u00a0Phillip Jon Taylor\u00a0and\u00a0Joshua Swinney, toured briefly, and as the world began to shut down, they slipped out of sight. Phillip retreated north to the Highlands where he focused on his painting, solo work and the rewarding demands of fatherhood. Josh headed south to London, pursuing his other passion as a chef at the highly acclaimed Plimsoll. It would have been easy for both to settle into their new lives, but PAWS never died\u2026and neither did the tie connecting the two friends.

Having missed playing together for too long, a plan was set and in October 2022 Josh travelled to Phillip’s home studio in his Crofters cottage where work began on the band’s fifth self-titled LP. Relying on a set of phone demos and chemistry honed after years on the road the songs came together surprisingly fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRemembering just how much we enjoyed writing and recording together was the driving force<\/em>\u201d\u00a0explains Josh. After recording previously with both\u00a0Blink 182\u2019s Mark Hoppus\u00a0and\u00a0Frightened Rabbit\u2019s Andy Monaghan, the band once again seized control of production duties as they had on their second album,\u00a0\u2018Youth Culture Forever\u2019.\u00a0\u201cThe thing we were hoping to achieve with making this album was to be able to be creatively free and to have fun writing and recording<\/em>\u201d\u00a0Josh continues. \u201cWe wanted it to happen quickly and not be a stagnant process.<\/em>\u201d\u00a0Utilising all they had learned and adding their own DIY ethos into the mix, the music was done in a week. Josh headed home and Phillip set to work on the lyrics.

The resulting record finds the band as grounded and assured as they ever have been. Marrying the deafening assault of youthful abandon with the whispered reasoning that comes with getting older; swaying from anger and exasperation to wide eyed optimism.\u00a0

A disorientated alienation stalks first single\u00a0Disenchanted<\/em>.<\/strong> \u201cWhat and who are we as human beings?\u201d<\/em> Phillip sings above a full throttled punk assault that drops before the two-minute mark while the duo still have breath in their lungs. \u201cThat was the first song we wrote and recorded for the album<\/em>\u201d explains Phillip. \u201cJosh was visiting and we spent all weekend chilling and catching up. Then a few hours before he had to head south again, we just decided to have a quick jam. I played bass and because I have my wee studio set up to record, we just naturally structured a song and tracked it really quickly. It was really liberating.<\/em>\u201d\u00a0It also provided the template upon which the rest of the record was built.\u00a0\u201cIf we didn\u2019t like the take or part listening back, we did it again until we were happy and boosted on to the next thing. It was definitely a refreshing way for us to work I found and just allowed us to do what we love.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018PAWS\u2019\u00a0is a succinct, razor wire encased documentary chronicling the pains of modern living. Delving into the dark underbelly of 90s alternative rock, painting with evocative instrumentals and revelling in celebratory indie punk, the band also embrace sordid pop and ambient electronics. And while it pays homage to where they have come from, it also signals a clean slate for the pair.

Two friends united over distance. After some time apart, all they needed was a spark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
