Bass Drum <\/strong>Of <\/strong>Death\u00a0(John Barrett,\u00a0Jim Barrett\u00a0and\u00a0Ian Kirkpatrick) will release their first live record,\u00a0\u2018LIVE\u2026.and\u00a0LET DIE,\u2019 on June 7\u00a0via Cobraside. Recorded in April 2023 in Chicago, it fully captures the band\u2019s dynamic sound.\u00a0Singer\/multi-instrumentalist\u00a0John Barrett\u00a0says \u201cWhen we heard the test pressing, we were like \u2018shit, we are playing these QUICK\u2019.\u00a0 It\u2019s fast, loose, but not too loose, and fun. We had a blast at the shows we recorded it at, so I hope that comes through.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hailing from Oxford, Mississippi, Bass Drum of Death initially started out in 2007 as the one-man-band solo project of John Barrett, releasing the\u00a0\u2018Stain Stick Skin\u2019 EP\u00a0on Fat Possum in 2008. The debut album,\u00a0\u2018GB City,\u2019 featuring the single\u00a0Young Pros,<\/em> followed in 2011. Barrett also began touring, working with a varied lineup of musicians for live performances.\u00a0Moving to Innovative Leisure for 2013’s sophomore release,\u00a0\u2018Bass Drum of Death,\u2019 with\u00a0a second album,\u00a0\u2018Rip This\u2019 in 2014, Barrett\u00a0announced the following year that the group would be going on hiatus due to “personal issues<\/em>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band returned in 2018 with\u00a0\u2018Just Business,\u2019 released on Century Media, and by 2020,\u00a0Barrett\u00a0had put together a new lineup, collaborating with his younger brother, guitarist Jim Barrett, and drummer Ian Kirkpatrick. The trio released the 7″ single Too Cold to Hold\/Wait<\/em> and spent much of the COVID lockdown working on new material, culminating in 2023\u00a0when they reunited with Fat Possum and delivered the group’s fifth full-length, the\u00a0Patrick Carney-produced\u00a0\u2018Say I Won’t<\/a>\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
