\u2018Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem\u2019 was created by Daft Punk and C\u00e9dric Hervet in collaboration with\u00a0Leiji Matsumoto\u00a0and\u00a0Toei Animation, and tells the story of the abduction of an alien music band by an evil human character who has dark plans. Essentially an anime visual album,\u00a0\u2018Interstella\u2019 features the entirety of Daft Punk\u2019s seminal 2001 album\u00a0\u2018Discovery\u2019\u00a0as its soundtrack, including iconic anthems such as One More Time<\/em>, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger<\/em>, and Veridis Quo<\/em>. Says\u00a0Shinji Shimizu\u00a0of\u00a0Toei <\/strong>Animation, who produced the film, \u201c\u2018One More Time\u2019 was playing all over the town at that time! I felt so proud that I wanted to shout to people on the street, \u2018We are making its animation now!\u2019\u201d<\/em>\u00a0As a visual album, the film was cut into individual music videos, and until this year it has been very rare to see the film in its entirety in cinemas.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To celebrate this global event,\u00a0\u2018Discovery: <\/em>Interstella 5555 Edition\u2019\u00a0will be released in limited physical quantities. This physical edition of\u00a0\u2018Discovery\u2019\u00a0will contain the original Japanese edition artwork, stickers and Daft Club card, which became a true collectors\u2019 item around its original release. The limited release will consist of\u00a05555 gold vinyl<\/a>,\u00a05555 numbered CDs<\/a>, and\u00a025,000 black viny<\/a>l.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Veridis Quo<\/em>\u00a0a standout track from\u00a0\u2018Discovery\u2019\u00a0was used widely over the summer in social content, and can now be heard in a global advertising campaign for\u00a0Chanel\u00a0N\u00b05\u00a0called\u00a0\u2018A rendez-vous<\/a>\u2019\u00a0directed by\u00a0Luca Guadagnino,\u00a0featuring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Since the track\u2019s original release, it has also been widely sampled in music from artists all over the world including Maluma, G-Dragon, and Jazmine Sullivan, and used in live sets from DJs including John Summit.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Earlier this year, Apple Music named\u00a0Discovery\u00a0<\/em>as the #23 best album of all time. It has also landed on best album lists from\u00a0Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Rhapsody, Resident Advisory, BBC Radio 1, British GQ. Guardian\u00a0critic Alexis Petridis wrote in 2020 that \u201cDaft Punk were incredibly prescient: play\u00a0Discovery<\/em>\u00a0and it sounds utterly contemporary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
