Equal parts dreamy and destructive, it\u2019s the kind of record that feels like it was born in a cloud of reverb and left to ferment in a DIY garage show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And honestly, that\u2019s not far from the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The band\u2014Sean Lissner (guitar\/vocals), Jaden Amjadi (bass\/screaming), Sam Schlesinger (guitar), and Evan Landi (drums)\u2014got their start in Evan\u2019s bedroom studio and quickly carved out a name for themselves in the LA underground. Think sweaty backyard shows, house party chaos, and plenty of love from local radio stations like KCRW and KXLU (yes, they even did a live session).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So what\u2019s the vibe of the EP?<\/strong><br>In a word: fuzzy. But not just that. There\u2019s depth and atmosphere too. <em>Fading<\/em> opens like a slow dive into a dream before crashing into a wall of glorious feedback. <em>Another Sunday<\/em> and <em>Tired Movements<\/em> drift in a melancholic haze, with Lissner\u2019s plaintive vocals stretching across ambient, bittersweet melodies. And <em>Heaven or La Brea<\/em>? That one goes full throttle\u2014from jangly indie anthem to full-on noise freakout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kTUPC7srtDQ?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The band launched the EP with a release show at El Cid in Silver Lake back in April, joined by kindred spirits bedbug and standingandlookingaround. If you missed it, don\u2019t worry\u2014<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/yvmbK3tZMdg?si=cpf1EWsaoZvcei9l\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Shambling History<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0caught the whole thing on video, including surprise covers of Lit\u2019s\u00a0<em>\u201cMy Own Worst Enemy\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and Natalie Imbruglia\u2019s\u00a0<em>\u201cTorn.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Yes, really.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So, who exactly&nbsp;<em>are<\/em>&nbsp;Steel Wool?<\/strong><br>They describe themselves as a \u201c<em>collision of sound experiments wearing the borrowed work uniform of rock music<\/em>,\u201d and honestly, that nails it. With backgrounds stretching from DIY punk to metal to bedroom pop, they\u2019re not aiming for clean genre lines.
