Their second full-length album,&nbsp;\u2018Something Soft,\u2019 is out now on Merge Records and TULLE, and it\u2019s anything but background music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This record pulses with catharsis and chaos\u2014raging against systems, sexism, and the general soul-suck of modern life, all while exploring what \u201csoftness\u201d really means. Spoiler alert: softness can hit like a sledgehammer when it needs to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To mark the release, M(h)aol dropped a new video for <em>1800-Call-Me-Back<\/em>, shot entirely on their phones, documenting a Thursday in the lives of each band member from their respective cities. It\u2019s raw, real, and delightfully unpolished\u2014basically a perfect companion to a track about the criminal offense that is ghosting (especially after 25, according to drummer\/vocalist Constance Keane).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ayduRcRCH3I?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>The intro sound came from me and Sean watching the Euros and talking about football chants,\u201d<\/em> says Keane. \u201c<em>I\u2019m not even into football, but international teams not being able to buy players? That hit different. This is our football song.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With&nbsp;\u2018Something Soft,\u2019 M(h)aol channel all their ferocity into finely tuned sonic fire. Tracks like <em>Pursuit<\/em> and <em>Snare<\/em> are anchored by Keane\u2019s pounding drums and pointed lyrics, bouncing off Jamie Hyland\u2019s gripping basslines and Sean Nolan\u2019s sharp-edged guitar. It\u2019s tight. It\u2019s tense. It\u2019s thrilling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And this time around, the band dug deeper\u2014literally. With extra time in Dublin\u2019s Ailfionn Studio, they experimented, layered, and finessed their sound like never before. But don\u2019t worry, they didn\u2019t lose their edge. If anything, they honed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the uninitiated, listening to&nbsp;\u2018Something Soft\u2019&nbsp;is like stumbling into an ongoing group chat filled with rage, wit, tenderness, and the occasional existential spiral.
