Toronto\u2019s sonic shapeshifter U.S. Girls<\/strong> (aka the wildly talented Meg Remy) is back with a glittery new single, Like James Said<\/em>, and we\u2019re dancing in our living rooms about it. This one\u2019s the second taste of her upcoming album \u2018Scratch It,\u2019 landing June 20 via Royal Mountain Records<\/strong> and 4AD<\/strong>. Mark your calendars, tape a reminder to your mirror, write it on your arm in glitter pen\u2014whatever works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like James Said<\/em> is a funky little gem with a big nod to James Brown and a soft spot for dancing alone in your kitchen at 2 a.m. Think: ELO on a nostalgic AM radio trip, with Remy\u2019s unmistakable voice delivering tragicomic gold (we\u2019re still not over the delivery of \u201cI\u2019m the queen of exercising [\u2026] pain.\u201d). Co-written with longtime collaborator Rich Morel, it\u2019s classic U.S. Girls: catchy, clever, and a little bit devastating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The single comes with a video that\u2019s as oddball and endearing as the track itself. Directed and performed by comedian Tom Henry<\/strong>, it\u2019s a single-shot dance sequence that somehow manages to be funny, beautiful, and maybe even a little sad\u2014in other words, the whole human condition, told through awkward dance moves and perfect lighting. Henry says he wanted to make a video about dancing… so he did. Sometimes, it\u2019s that simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
