{"id":43834,"date":"2025-08-22T12:15:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-22T16:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=43834"},"modified":"2025-08-10T08:28:55","modified_gmt":"2025-08-10T12:28:55","slug":"perturbator-dives-into-dreamscapes-with-new-single-the-swimming-pool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=43834","title":{"rendered":"Perturbator dives into dreamscapes with new single \u2018The Swimming Pool\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Parisian electronic alchemist&nbsp;<strong>Perturbator<\/strong>&nbsp;(aka James Kent) has just unveiled <strong><em>The Swimming Pool<\/em><\/strong>, the third single from his upcoming album&nbsp;\u2018Age of Aquarius,\u2019 landing October 10 via&nbsp;<strong>Nuclear Blast Records<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Known for crafting dystopian synth soundtracks that feel equally suited to neon-lit streets and crumbling futures, Kent takes a softer turn here. <em>The Swimming Pool<\/em> is a serene, minimalist piano ballad\u2014more dream than dancefloor\u2014calling back to the atmospheric video game scores that first brought him cult fame with the&nbsp;<em>Hotline Miami<\/em>&nbsp;series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aRrITE1m92o?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\u201c<em>It\u2019s a little moment of respite in an otherwise mostly aggressive album,<\/em>\u201d Kent explains. \u201c<em>Inspired by a dream I had years ago in which I found myself stuck in a huge hotel, searching ever so unsuccessfully for the swimming pool.\u201d<\/em> The track glows with moonlit melancholy, a brief but haunting breath before the storm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That storm is hinted at by the album\u2019s previous singles:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?feature=shared&amp;v=Q6jfRSNp6O8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Apocalypse Now<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(featuring Ulver\u2019s Kristoffer Rygg), a brooding epic dripping  with menace.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?feature=shared&amp;v=AC8LAVjo3wA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">The Art of War<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, one of Perturbator\u2019s hardest-hitting tracks to date, which Kent describes as \u201cwar as an idea\u201d rather than a single event\u2014EBM battle music at its most cinematic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Age of Aquarius\u2019&nbsp;promises to be Kent\u2019s most confident, thematically sharp release yet. Mastered by&nbsp;<strong>Jaime Gomez Arellano<\/strong>&nbsp;(Ghost, Opeth) and featuring collaborations with&nbsp;<strong>Alcest<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Author &amp; Punisher<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Greta Link<\/strong>, the album explores the tangled web of individualism, conflict, and war.
