After storming onto the scene with the restless energy of&nbsp;<em>I THINK I LIKE YOU<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>IT&#8217;S JUST LIFE<\/em>&nbsp;(both snatched up by BBC 6 Music), they\u2019ve just dropped a brand-new single,&nbsp;<em>NIGHTWALKING<\/em>&nbsp;\u2014 and it\u2019s another left turn in their ever-expanding sonic world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The track teases their highly anticipated debut album&nbsp;\u2018GOOD FOR THE SOUL,\u2019 out <strong>September 19th via Strap Originals<\/strong>, the label founded by none other than Peter Doherty. Produced by Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, Amyl &amp; The Sniffers, The Fall, Working Men\u2019s Club), the record promises grit, beauty, and plenty of unpredictability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A darker kind of soul<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On&nbsp;<em>NIGHTWALKING<\/em>, GANS drift into the late-night shadows, swapping jagged post-punk urgency for something moodier, smoky, and just a little dangerous. It\u2019s not love songs by candlelight \u2014 it\u2019s love songs by streetlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Drummer\/vocalist&nbsp;<strong>Euan Woodman<\/strong>&nbsp;explains: \u201c<em>NIGHTWALKING<\/em>&nbsp;<em>addresses that space between love, desire and lust\u2026 Love doesn\u2019t have to be pure or simple. It can be dark and cruel. We wanted to write our version of a soul track with a dark twist.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>To bring that vision to life, they tapped brass players from Ibibio Sound Machine, layering in warm grooves that Woodman cheekily describes as: <em>\u201cLike a Grand Theft Auto late-night cruise with Marvin Gaye driving through the streets of Digbeth.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/M3S-b-FUNsU?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>We\u2019ll take that ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Born of the Black Country, dreaming beyond<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Woodman and bassist\/vocalist&nbsp;<strong>Tom Rhodes<\/strong>&nbsp;grew up in the working-class landscapes of the Black Country \u2014 factory towns, mills, and the weight of expectation. Their music draws from that grounding while reaching far beyond it, balancing uneasy realism with a hunger for escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Woodman, who also paints surreal Francis Bacon-esque creatures (including the goose that inspired the band\u2019s name \u2014 \u201cGANS\u201d is \u201cgoose\u201d in German), is the group\u2019s main lyricist. His words lean into discomfort, strangeness, and the darker shades of modern life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>As Rhodes puts it: <em>\u201cWe both come from places where people get locked in by their surroundings\u2026 We knew we didn\u2019t want that. We\u2019re proud of where we\u2019re from, but our ambitions are more Copacabana than Costa Del Dudley.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The making of\u00a0\u2018Good For The Soul\u2019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The album has been a true journey for the pair. In late 2024, they retreated to a cottage in the Welsh countryside armed with food, booze, records, and just enough weed to keep the ideas flowing. Over ten days, they wrote 15\u201316 songs with a brook babbling outside like a Led Zeppelin clich\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fast forward to January 2025: the band hit the studio with Ross Orton in Sheffield, bashing out the album in just three weeks. The result is a raw, urgent debut that tackles acceptance, self-destruction, body image, and modern anxieties \u2014 with plenty of noise, sweat, and heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tracklist highlights include the pounding&nbsp;<em>A FOOL<\/em>, the raw honesty of&nbsp;<em>OH GEORGE<\/em>, and the satirical&nbsp;<em>THIS PRODUCT<\/em>, which takes aim at electronic \u201clife improvement\u201d gadgets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Catch GANS live<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The band will be hitting the road hard with a UK headline tour this September, before joining BIG SPECIAL on select European dates.
